XPS 8930, will XPS 8700 PSU fit?
I'm considering to get the Dell XPS 8930. If I get it, I'd want to transfer the power supply from my existing XPS 8700 to the XPS 8930. Will it fit? The reason I'm asking is because when looking at the photo of the XPS 8930 (below), the power supply appears to rotate outwards, which is different from the XPS 8700 (and all the previous Dell computers I've owned). My guess is that the power supply is the same (and it's just the swinging bracket that's different) but I'd like to hear from someone who's actually done it. Does anyone know if the XPS 8930 power supply unit is the same shape & size as previous Dell computers like the XPS 8700?

Both systems use different PSU part numbers. Why would you want to install the old 2013 XPS 8700 460w PSU into the new XPS 8930?

I put in a 3rd party 750 W power supply into my XPS 8700 (which used to fit into my XPS 8300 as well) and I'm wondering if I can use it for the XPS 8930 or will I have to buy a new power supply that has a different shape? I saw in a YouTube video that the XPS 8930 uses the standard ATX power supply so I was guessing it would be ok. But now you have me worried. Even though the PSU is a different part number for both systems, wouldn't the ATX dimensions still be the same?

Dell cannot know this since we did not test the 3rd party 750w PSU. You simply need to try it out and post the results.

I realize that no one would be able to know if my 3rd party PSU fits inside the XPS 8930 and that's why I phrased it the way I did. It does fit inside my XPS 8700, so if the XPS 8700 and XPS 8930 uses the same size power supply, then chances are it will fit there too. The ATX power supply has standard width & height but varies in length. So I guess what I should be asking is, does the XPS 8930 have the same size motherboard as the XPS 8700? I've read that the XPS 8700 uses a micro ATX motherboard. What size motherboard is the XPS 8930?

It's effectively a micro-ATX board. If you own an 8700, you may be surprised at how much smaller (read, shorter) the newer 89xx chassis is -- it would have been considered a "mini" tower not long ago (vs the large tower 8700).

I thought the XPS 8700 was already kind of small to be working inside and the 8930 is even smaller? Dang. I might as well consider getting a new power supply (fully modulated). Any recommendations for the XPS 8930? I was considering this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0185C5YMS/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1 which is a standard ATX form. Will a standard ATX power supply unit fit inside a micro-ATX board?

EDIT: OK I ordered the 550W G3 y3 (UK version) and I now know all ATX PSU will fit and the dimensions saying more than 85mm are all wrong!
The problem now is finding an adapter to the 2-wire power to DVD as it uses what seems to be a mini sata-type plug to add power from a standard sata power connector. I can not find one!

EVGA G3 550W PSU fitted and working.
For Power to Optical DVD Drive I finally found this (rare) https://www.microsatacables.com/6-pin-slimline-sata-15-pin-sata-power-cable-p6pfwvt-15pm else you'll need to use the 4pin Molex from PERIF instead if you'd like to solder the 2 wires to the correct tags.
The EVGA ATX size is NOT the correct fit for the chasis screws so the chasis holes need to be make bigger! Caution with mains drills and static charges to m/b!!! Else it fits snug with rear plate holding it fine although that is not ideal grounding!
Next issue is the EVGA Modular SATA Power cable has straight plugs instead of angled and although the case does close it bulges! So I've ordered this for 2 Drives and DVD which uses the above Part...

This did improve odd freezes in VR for Elite:Dangerous and increased HMD SS by another 0.5 to 1.75 ;)

WARNING: Unfortunately the right-angled Silverstone cable above won't work with EVGA PSU. Although it has 3x 15pin Sata Power it also even has the 6pin Optical Drive BUT it is NOT COMPATIBLE!
Your better choice would be a Silverstone PSU that may come with that cable perhaps also. EVGA are ridiculous for no angled connectors!!!

EVGA comes with their own cables so I'm not sure why you are referencing Silverstone.

I thought that it is pretty obvious why he referenced Silverstone, he said "... the EVGA Modular SATA Power cable has straight plugs instead of angled and although the case does close it bulges! So I've ordered this ..." this being a link to the Silverstone cable. But in the next post he said the right-angled Silverstone cable did not work with the EVGA PSU. So basically, the Silverstone cable had right-angled connectors that would prevent the case from bulging but as usual with modular PSUs you can only use the cables that are supplied.
