XPS 8950 -- Why no liquid cooling option for i9 systems?

The liquid cooling option is available for XPS 8950 i7 systems, but not i9 systems. Does anyone know why?

Dell did it again.  if you choose the i9 -k cpu then the liquid cooling option appears along with standard bad air cooler.  if i9 cpu then only air cooler.

Sounds like a mistake in the online-configurator -or-

you were not looking at a "fully configurable" base-config.

Yes I even chatted with Dell support, and the Dell person confirmed that XPS 8950 i9 system does not have the liquid cooling option. It's strange to me because I think i9 system would require more cpu cooling than i7 system. I also remember seeing a YouTube review of a XPS 8950 i9 system with liquid cooling. Now I have to decide to get an i7 system with liquid cooling or i9 system with air cooling. Any recommendations? This would be for a general-purpose workload and occasional gaming with a RTX graphics card.

Or I get an i9-K system.

the -k cpu is $100 extra and the liquid cooler is $50 more.  If you could afford 100 more then I recommend the -k for higher value and performance even if you do not intend to overclock.

the ordering system software is flawed.  in Dell's wisdom they want to reserve the liquid cooler for the cream of the crop -k cpu on initial release of new product line.  some users bought the non -k cpu in 8940 with bad air cooler and had to make some struggle to order the premium cooler from Dell later.  Dell does not ship the premium cooler except for -k cpu.

Thanks.  I'll probably do that.

When the 8950 first came out, Dell didn't offer Alder lake with two separate clock speeds, but the liquid cooling was an option.  Fwiw, my i9 just smashes the performance of my i7 8th gen and especially my older Dells.  This is a good machine.

Huh?  I ordered an XPS 8950 with a 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-12900K.  The computer was configured with liquid cooling.  I had to return the computer on 29 Dec 2021 due to memory failures but got a replacement on 22 Jan 2022.  It also was liquid cooled.

I am guessing you tried to configure an 11th gen core i9 computer.
