XPS 15 Bluescreen Video DXGKRNL fatal error

 

I have a XPS15 with Windows 10 (all updates done) and Intel HD Graphics 630 plus Nvidia GTX1050 built-in standard.

For the last few months I am getting blue screen fatal erros Video DXGKRNL. After google search I have done all the following but the problem still persists:

-uninstall and re-install Video drivers (both) with drivers from Dell site

- Same letting windows search for the drivers

- Ran sfc/scannow

- Ran Windows Hardware and device troubleshooter (no issue fund)

- All Dell updates have been done

- Anti-virus Microsoft Defender up to date

 

I have no clue what to do to get rid of this issue.

 

Help would be appreciated. For info I am no IT expert!!

Interesting, I tried Edge and FFox, same result. Try to save using JPG

Intel embedded into CPU, and discrete chip from nvidia added to make laptop more heavy(cooling system)\ more expensive\ to have additional headache after overheating its chip (welcome to BGA sockets world), but having additional video card will give you +15 FPS while you gonna play games or encoding some videos :))). So, if you are not a gamer - never buy laptop with discrete video card.

As a possible cause due to overheating at some point nvidia chip loose contact with board where it's soldered and videodriver gives you a system exception blue screen. If I were you I would uninstall nvidia driver using device manager\programs and features and disable it at device manager and test.

If you continue to see bsod after that check bluescreenview again and upload screenshot again so we can guess who's fault is that -__-

I have already uninstall re-installed the Nvidia driver  via Dell Support page but still got BScreen afterwards

I was not sure why there were two graphics cards. I do not play games so I shall follow your advice.

nope, same result, I even tried from my phone. Just a yellow triangles. Did you use Insert Photos button?

ok, now I see it, looks like it takes time for this board to upload pictures.

So, your problem is nvlddmkm.sys from nVidia. Two option:

1) go to dell support page, use your service tag (showed on bottom label) and download last nvidia driver \ install \ reboot \ test

2) open device manager \ expand video adapters \ you see intel and nvidia \ disable nvidia and reboot. You will only be able to use intel adapter and if you don't play games you good to go.

Hi demonru,

I'm having the same issue explained by jgl51.

I ran the bluescreenviewer that you suggested (here attached the screen) and it seems the same problem with NVIDIA chip.

The only problem is that I'm a gamer and I need the NVIDIA card. I installed the new drivers but the issue still happen and I think it is more frequent when the chip is overloaded (high temp?).

What would you suggest? Is there a way to fix this?

Hi, two moments here.

1) Try to play your games using internal Intel video chip (you can disable nvidia via device manager or assign your game executable file to use internal graphic card (intel) via windows settings -> system -> display -> graphic settings -> browse your game EXE file and set Power Saving option). See how it works. No issues, no BSOD? At least now we know that there is no windows OS issues here at this moment and something wrong with nvidia for sure.

2) It's almost impossible to define who's fault is here. It could be nvidia chip or its driver, but the error will always come from the driver. You need clean windows OS installation, with dell drivers to test your games. If it happens again - only replacement. I have a friend with necessary equipment who taking off a chip, make new soldering balls and put it back on board, but the price!! :))) So, test clean install or just live with it or dump it.

ps. I personally dont understand people who buy a laptop to play games. It's just silly. 2mm heat sink can't do miracle.
