Hello everyone, I've been using my device with a problem graphics card for a while. I didn't know the keywords for googling because I don't have much electronic knowledge. But day by day, it bothered me because of the video card problem of such a good computer.

Now I realized that I have the same problem as I mentioned above, yes XPS is very good, but is it a coincidence that this failure is repeated in the same way?? Or is it a manufacturing defect?

On a system that's over five years old, any claim of a design or manufacturing defect won't hold any credibility -- the component could simply have failed to to use and advanced age. 



Is the criterion 5 years? funny.. I have used many brands for a long time(at least 10) (Server, pc, etc...) or I have guided people who use them. In this way I have never seen any device the same pyshical burn of different twice in a row. I think, it's engineering of fatality.

Please let's be a little objective. We are not talking about for example the SSD has a shorter lifespan than the HDD, or does someone who took this photo look like someone who complains that they can't play the game they want with the video card?

The objective view:  notebook computers are designed around a 3-year lifespan.  Not all will fail at that time;  some fail sooner, and some make it the ten years you claim.  By five years old, failures due to design and manufacture are indistinguishable to failures due to the same statistics that apply to any manufactured product.  By three years old, between one out of four and one out of three notebooks will suffer a major failure, and by five years that percentage will have risen appreciably.

As for drives, while it was once true that SSDs generally had shorter lifespans than spinning hard drives, the reverse has been true for quite some time.  The design life of a hard drive is five years -- that dates back decades.  Some last a shorter time, and some last significantly longer, but statistically speaking your odds of having an SSD survive a decade are higher than they are for a hard drive.

At any rate, with a five year old system that suffers a failure in a surface mount component, you're going to be replacing the system board -- and the replacement will be used and of similar vintage to the original, since repair parts are generally produced in contemporary fashion to the systems, with just enough being around to cover warranty failures (the rest will be in the used aftermarket;  as systems as scrapped for failure, the serviceable parts are often removed and sold on).



If what you're saying isn't about the product life cycle in the new world order, it should just be a joke. Incredible..


All models have manufacturing defective in the process and any machine failed the quality control, it would be pulled before shipping out.  Any machine proves to be defective would be replaced or returned, according with the warranty from manufacturers.  Your specific machine was not one of them, and certainly not the whole product line of 9560 being defective.  Some users read instructions, taken steps for proper maintenance and used their machines with cares.  Some others just used it with the ways they know how according with their knowledges.  It was resulting in some machines did well in performance while others had experiencing issues and problems.  But, whichever the case, the machine would be taken care of if it was under warranty.   

While you are not satisfy with the performance of your machine, many others are happy with theirs and many are posting here with interests in upgrade options (components, os) so that they can keep their machines longer.  It's pointless to receive agreement or disagreement from forum members if your machine was defective or not.

While I could go on and providing references to support my points, it's moot and does not resolve the actual issue(s) you have with your machine.  I think that it would be more productively if you create a post with specific machine issue.  Forum members with knowledge and experience with the subject would assist you better, rather than just a vague defective assumption.

There is a misunderstanding here, I am very happy with my device. However, while running at least 2 VMs and at least 3 dockers at the same time, I could open many tabs in at least 3 different browsers before my video card issue. Now ? Intel can see how pathetic I am.

Finally, my purpose here is not to denigrate anything, I recommend this brand to those around me. However, the people around me are not professionals like me in this field, and when they encounter such a situation at any time, there will be a direct return to me.

In this context, I have to share this fact, why? because now it's a statistic.


While I can't help with rant and rave, I can suggesting solution.  In my personal opinion, you chose a wrong product line for the job.  With the same Kabylake family pairing with a Quadro P4000, a Precision 7720 would beat that XPS on every tasks.  It's not too late to change one now if you want to make your life happier. 


I did a little research on your suggestion, I think that the xps 15 9560 (2017) which is for my needs is quite good and I think not need the model you mentioned currently. XPS 15 provides the optimum which needed, aesthetics, power, simplicity for me. I don't want to carry a TANK with me between home and work anyway thank you.


No disagreement from me there.  Except for the performance, the XPS beats the Precision on everything else.  I only looked at which machine would get the works done better.  What consider practical for me may not work for others so I understand.
