Dell Premium Active Pen (PN579X) and Dell XPS 13 7390

Hello! I decided to buy an Active Pen and consulted with expert of Dell. He suggested I buy a Dell Premium Active Pen (PN579X). I bought it and tried to use it. I need to download drivers for it, but when loading drivers on my laptop XPS 13 7390, the driver does not fit and I can not use the pen. I understand that guy said me wrong data but I like this pen and I want it. Maybe someone knows how to make this pen work on my laptop? Is there a solution? I do not want to return it.

Thanks so much.

@Thetanik: Did you solve this problem?  I have same 2 in 1 XPS13 (new model 7390).  I got the premium active pen (PN579X) today.  It started to work immediately.  Cheers.

Well turns out the Dell XPS 13 7390 does not have active pen support if there is no sticker on the XPS 13 7390 saying "Active Pen". After buying this and the pen, and choosing the pen based on the website and Dell vendor recommendation, it does not work. The bluetooth connects, the back button causes various items to pop open but NOTHING in terms of writing. There was some reference to there being two XPS 13 7390 versions. Well!

So we are clear, do you have the 2-in-1 version of the XPS 13 7390?  I have that PEN with my XPS 9365 2-in-1 but I do not know if it works with a normal laptop..

If you have the correct system, the button on the side will change its configuration for different screen types.  You might try holding it down for a few seconds, or whatever the instructions say to get it to change so you can verify it will or won't work in either mode.

Hello! I do not have drivers for this pen. Her driver cannot find my laptop and I can’t get a full pen connection with the laptop. The screen does not respond to the tip, but responds to buttons. If the screen reacted to the tip, it would be half the trouble.

Hi, same problem. I have new Dell XPS 13 7390 and Dell Premium Active pen (PN579X).

When connected with bluethooth, pen buttons work, but tip does not work with the screen.
Can Dell Crew just write here how to fix this problem...?

after two days of service tag support comes the revelation.....they are sold as compatible but are not

September 2nd, 2020 16:00

is this really compatible?

I went through many hours with dell. I bought this laptop explaining the highest value being active pen use. looks like the quote came for the wrong one so XPS 13 7390 does not support an active pen. xps 13 7390 2-in-1 supports it. even the salesperson who provided the active pen recommendation continued the error. unfortunately the laptop does not fit in the returnable window as when covid hit, I used my old laptop and took too long to discover this really unfortunate error.

it sells as touch screen etc. so there is a big problem in how they market laptops or put the specs down in their stores

I think you are correct. I have the XPS 13 7390 (laptop not 2-in-1). Unfortunately I didn't realize and to be honest it should be specified MUCH clearer, that the PN579X active pen is compatible with the 2-in-1, not the laptop as I found out, even though it is still touch screen and it connects, and the top button will bring up certain functions, it does not recognize the stylus tip.

Again, I'm really upset, it should be much clearer, especially when you have two computers named the same, both with touch screens. Also I was very much wanting to use it!

Hope this clarifies the problem, even if not with a happy ending. Would love to know if there is a way round this though!

I have the same problem. Just bought the Dell XPS 13 7390  listed as supported laptop for the Active Pen PN579. Now I finally know why it didn't work.

Indeed.   The new active stylus-worjs well with Dell xps13, 2 in 1, 7390.

Cheers.
