Dell XPS 15 won't boot after flat battery

My XPS 15 has a problem booting up if the battery has gone flat. As long as the battery never goes completely flat, then no problems whatsoever, windows loads. Basically if the XPS 15 runs out of power, when I come to boot it up I just get a black screen, no dell logo, no nothing. I can however boot it to diagnostic mode or the screen test mode, once the test has started I can immediately quit the test, reboot the laptop and it is fine. I have run the various hardware tests that dell provide which says everything is fine. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, cheers.

Try to make 2-3 full charge-discharge cycles to let the battery circuit know what current min/max values are.
