Dell xps 7390 2 in 1 very poor battery life

Hi,

I have the model with 4K screen, and it seems that the battery life is way less than advertised (i get around 4 hours squeezing out everything i can) and by only doing web, word and a bit of netflix. It is so far from what dell has advertised ~10 hours and it could be considered as misleading or false advertising. However, i cannot return the product, but I think that going for the full hd screen would save a great amount of battery life.

You can usually take the manufacturer quoted battery runtime and divide by two to get a real-world estimate of what you'll see - you may be able to make up an extra hour by tightening down the power management settings, but unless you're using the system very conservatively (i.e., not for watching video on Netflix or having the screen powered on at anything over bare brightness for hours on end), you'll never come close to the 10 hour quote.

The screen (and the GPU serving it) is the biggest power consumer in the system, as you've noted.

Thks for your anwser!

Then Dell is misleading or lying by promoting such high battery life. I know i'm being a bit naive but i wasn't expecting such a low battery life.
Another question then, would it be possible to change the screen to a full hd display?

I'm sure some combination of power settings can produce that battery runtime - just like some modes of use could net you 40 mpg from an F150 pickup truck.  They're not real-world possibilities.

If you replace the display panel, which you can in fact do - you will void your warranty, if that's  a consideration.

Hello accmoz, your feedback regarding the advert has been noted. The battery life advertised have the conditions in which it is tested and it is noted with symbol (*) next to them in the same ad. You can check the hardware configuration used which can provide the battery life. Please refer to FAQ on steps that can help increase the battery life of a system. ^AM

Thnank you for your reply.
Would it be possible to have access to that benchmark, so i can understand what setting were used.
Also, regarding the screen change, do you think it would be possible?

Thanks in advance

Moreover, I get lots of performance issues when gaming (blue screens mainly) could this be due to faulty components? i have updated all drivers, even reinstalled them.

Yes, you can check the benchmark details here. Scroll down to "Work or play all day" and click on the *.

Regarding the display upgrade you can check with the regional Sales team if the parts are available for upgrade and what would be the cost for this upgrade. It would carry warranty as a Dell order number would be associated with the purchase. Please private message us your location so that we can guide you to the sale team if you are interested.

What is the performance issues you are facing on this system? We would need to troubleshoot more before we can decide if it is hardware or software related. ^AM
