Do you recommend changing SSDPEMKF512G8 Intel NVMe drive to an other one?

 Hello to all,

Using XPS 9300. Device shipped with Intel SSDPEMKF512G8 NVMe as harddrive. Do you recommend me to change it with an other model like Samsung 970, Toshiba etc. for better performance?

Thank you.

The Samsung 970 is a higher performance drive, particularly in Pro guise, yes.

Toshiba is out of the SSD business -- it has spun off its SSD business as Kioxia.  It's not clear which drive you're asking about, but most of Toshiba's older SSDs have not been competitive speed-wise with Samsung's.

 Hello,

Thank you for your reply. Which 970 model do you recommend? Could you provide a URL please? I know that there are multiple 970 models available. Also, do I need to buy aditional tool for that? for thermal etc.
Lastly, will it afect battary or performance?

Thank you.

The 970 Pro are among the fastest SSDs around.  Yes, they do consume appreciably more power and will produce more heat, so yes - they will reduce battery runtimes.

The Intel SSD you have is relatively power efficient but lower in performance.

Re: Do you recommend changing SSDPEMKF512G8 Intel NVMe drive to an other one?

 Hello,

Totally understood. When I check Samsung website, I saw 3 different models. 970Pro, 970Evo and 970Evo Plus.
It seems that I need to buy 2280 form. But how can I to be sure that what is the form of the unit?
Also, If I buy 970Evo plus instead of pro, would that be a good option for above reasons that you mentioned?

Thank you.

You do need an M.2 2280 drive.

As for which to buy, compare the prices, performance and features.  What, exactly are you looking for that your current drive doesn't offer?

No.

If it is working properly, don't mess with it.
