XPS 13 7290 2-in-1, mouse/trackpad intermittently freeze

Hello,

Anyone know how to fix the issue that my new dell xps 13 7390 2-in-1 has? The mouse/trackpad input is intermittently freezing under minor loads. (My old laptop would not have the same issue, despite it being much older)

I've disabled panel self refresh.

For me disabling panel self refresh did nothing in terms of a fix. Can anyone in this thread verify they have done this? It seems this fixed the issue for me.

I need to check my BIOS version. I'm not exactly sure how you could downgrade the BIOS but I'll take a look and report back. Currently I'm on the Creator's update, but am planning to move to the slow ring.

Thank you very much. My mouse now working, no more 'mouse/track pad intermittently freeze'.

1. Go to 'Device Manager'

2. Select 'Bluetooth'

3. Select 'Intel(R) Wireless Bluetooth(R)'

4. Select 'Power Management'

5. DO NOT 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power'

Hi @mux8,

Which BIOS version are you on?

I experienced issues with my trackpad and bluetooth mouse when upgraded to BIOS version 1.3.1, downgrading it to 1.1.3 again solved my issues.

Potential solution (until Intel or Dell will officially solve this problem), but I need at least one more volunteer to verify that:

  1. Right click on your Windows desktop and select Intel Graphics Settings (you can also run it from tray area if you did not disabled it from running at startup)
  2. Go to Power tab (second icon at the bottom right side)
  3. Disable "Panel Self-Refresh" option and hit Apply
  4. Shutdown your device (do not just restart since problem is more likely to happen on fresh start and you want to test that it's "fixed") and turn it on back again.

WOW, thank you for telling me this. I was going mad and my new BT keyboard/mouse was useless on 1.3.1, and I didn't make the correlation between BIOS upgrade and the bluetooth because I didn't use the keyboard/mouse for a while after the upgrade.

There is still a slight delay after a few seconds inactivity on my keyboard mouse, but instead of 2-3 seconds (with 1.3.1) it's more like 300-400ms on 1.1.3. Wonder what the they broke in this upgrade...

I also noticed an issue with the trackpad yesterday, where it would work for a few seconds, then freeze for a few seconds until I closed the lid and re-opened it. I was about to throw this  laptop into the wall at that point.

Changing the power management setting for the Intel Bluetooth Wireless device as above solved the problem for me, thanks for the tip.

Same here after updating bios last night, surely Dell should have pulled this update?

Will try the fixes mentioned and if not downgrade to the working version.

Edit: Changing the power management setting on the Intel Bluetooth Wireless device solved it for me, thanks for the tip.

Rolling back the BIOS worked for me.

Hi,

Part from rolling back the BIOS firmware version, disable the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" in the Device Manager also worked when i once again upgraded the firmware to 1.1.3.

I hope any of these solutions will resolve your issue.

I also just bought a XPS 13 7390 2-in-1 and spent over 4 days looking for online support and solutions. Annoying...

Rolling back BIOS upgrade has improved the lag issue for me but there is still a 0.5 second delay.

I hope Dell support resolves this issue with the next BIOS update.
