all information given so far is correct and the bios has errors again.

When listing the updates, you can already see deviations in the EC updates.

We hope the new 1.3.1 will fix the issues.

Similar problem here. XPS 13 9300 (Developer Edition / Ubuntu 20.04)
After BIOS upgrade 1.2.0 -> 1.3.0  won't connect to the Thunderbolt3 dock 😞

Tried rolling back the firmware,  installed windows alongside with Linux and did all possible updates but still no luck.

I figured the only way to make XPS13 work with TB3 dock after this BIOS update is to shutdown/start up the laptop connected to the dock. I'm eager to hear if anyone has experienced similar issues and if you have a better workaround.

Looking forward to that 1.3.1 BIOS upgrade.

@eyforia sorry but your post is unclear. You say "the Thunderbolt3 dock" but you need to state what model dock you are referring to.

Also you say "won't connect" but then say "the only way to make XPS13 work with TB3 dock after this BIOS update is to shutdown/start up the laptop connected to the dock" which implies it does actually connect. So do you actually mean it will not hotplug connect? And do you mean that the dock does not connect at all, or only some ports? Are there no messages in the journal/log, or are there failure messages, etc ..

@bulletmark thanks for correcting me,

it's Dell XPS 13/9300 (32gb dev edition) + CalDigit TS3 Plus dock, and yes, the specific problem I'm having is that laptop won't hotplug-connect to the TB3 dock since about 3 days ago.

The only significant configuration change was Dell BIOS Update 1.2.0->1.3.0 (when it became available via Discover/Updates in KDE). Some of the error messages that I got in dmesg/fwupdmgr matches what people had in this thread which makes me thing the issue is related(see below)

I tried to self-diagnose the issue and so far everything is pointing at problem with the 1.3.0 BIOS on the laptop:

- tried different TB3 cable - NOT WORKING
- tried combinations of TB and security-related settings in BIOS - NOT WORKING
- switched to older kernel - NOT WORKING
- downgraded BIOS to 1.2.0 (system reports that it's 1.2.0 but I was getting error during downgrade: "ME Firmware EndUpdate Failed Error: 0x00000162") - STILL NOT WORKING
- reinstalled linux with factory settings - NOT WORKING
- installed windows 10 alongside linux, booted into windows 10, installed updates via Dell Assistant - TB HOTPLUG IS NOT WORKING EVEN in WINDOWS
- tried different laptop (XPS9570) to connect to the same dock - WORKS FINE 😞

Here's log from dmesg immediately after I hotplug the dock. The first time I do this after the restart - the external screen briefly flashes for a second and then disconnects. If I try to hotplug the dock after that I only see "no switch exists at 1" error in dmesg with no other details:

@eyforia I am just a regular user here like yourself looking for information about running Arch Linux on my XPS 13 9300 model and my Dell WD19TB (TB3) dock. I have posted variously around here about how I have got my dock working pretty well but it is unlikely to help you with your Caldigit dock. However, I also have found BIOS 1.3.0 does not work as well for me as 1.2.0. I have done plenty of experiments over many days (been between 1.2.0 and 1.3.0 at least 6 times each, with lots of extended time tests in between). I also get that ME firmware update failure each time I downgrade from 1.3.0 to 1.2.0 but from my research I am pretty sure that is benign. That is Intel's Management Engine which Dell merely package in the BIOS update and I don't think Intel allow the version downgrade because it included security updates. So even though the ME version does not allow downgrade, everything else in BIOS 1.2.0, certainly all the Dell stuff and their various 1.3.0. changes, do downgrade just fine.

@bulletmark ,

You were right about the ME firmware downgrade error - I chatted with Dell Support yesterday and they've confirmed pretty much the same.

Dell has reached out to me and after some troubleshooting they suspect that I may be having a hardware issue. I'm expecting a Tech to come over and swap the motherboard later today. I'll let you know if it was the culprit in my case.

p.s. Kudos to Dell's customer service (JKC) for being knowledgeable and offering a quick solution 👍

I just upgraded my XPS9300 to 1.3.0 and now the right USB-C port, which has worked flawlessly since day 1, doesn't recognised my D6000 anymore.  It just reports that the USB device connected to the port has malfunctioned.

So I plug it into the left USB port? Works fine.

There's nothing wrong with the port either, if I plug my USB webcam in with a USB-C adaptor, my webcam works great.

Hopefully this is a BIOS bug that can be fixed shortly.
