XPS 15 9570 - Really bad quality of the speakers

Jump to solution
Hi all, I had this problem before I updated the Realtek driver (ver. 6.0.1.8603) with the strange sound crackling. The problem was resolved with this version, BUT today I updated the bios to 1.8.1 and NOW the sound is even worse. The bass is distorted and totally ruins the 2k euros of a laptop worth EXPERIENCE!!! I mean COME ON Dell, what are you guys doing!? Not to mention the space bar problem I had and still have (They tried to fix it and still it is not responsive on the left bottom side). Does anyone have the same experince with me? And yes, if any solution possible, please write it down bellow πŸ™‚

Dude thank you so much. Such sensible straightforward advice. Totally cleared up the issue. I'd been looking around for a while before I found this answer. To elaborate on this go to: https://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/product-support/product/xps-15-9570-laptop/drivers

Then under the 'category' dropdown select 'audio'. Download the Realtek high definition audio driver. See image below.

Make sure you are using the customized drivers from Dell Support, not the manufacturer's drivers. Laptops rarely if ever get driver updates. Try installing the previous bios to see if the problem clears up.

Downloading the Realtek drivers worked for me after having and trying to fix the bad sound for several months. So thanks for the tip. I tried using the "update" drivers from the device manager and it found nothing but I noticed that the drivers from the link were a couple of months newer than I had so I installed the newer ones. It worked very well, two re-boots and now for the first time I have sound that, dare I say it, sounds good.

@ben_ie_d Thank you! My XPS had 2 motherboard replacements (first was my cat's fault, the second was a bad power plug that took the motherboard with it). After the second installation it run a bunch of updates including BIOS. Then I noticed the speakers sounded bad. I thought the motherboard replacement had damaged the hardware. I was almost ready to order new speaker parts then I saw your solution in my research. Updating the driver worked!! I never thought a driver would affect sound quality! Thank you sir!

I'm having the same audio issues as you described. Before the most recent driver updates I would get a lot of crackling come from the speakers. After installing the bios update the speakers sound like the treble has been lowered and the bass is super high. Watching scenes with dialogue is super painful due to the high bass in sound. Super disappointed with my laptop experience so far. Wouldn't recommend Dell to family or friends.

I have the same issue with my XPS15 laptop, to solve it, I uninstalled/installed the Realtek high definition audio driver + Install the MaxxAudio Pro Waves Application Tool to adjust the sound. Dell really disappointed me.
