XPS 15 Slow Performance When AC Plugged
Hello everyone
XPS 15 9500
32GB RAM
i7-10750H
1TB SSD
GeForce GTX 1650-Ti
My problem -
The computer works just fine when the AC power cable (Type-C) unplugged, but when I do plug it, windows applications gets laggy with tiny (maybe graphic) delays. When I unplug it again the computer gets faster immediately.
I have tried all battery-performance options (when plugged).
Also my screen flickers when I plug/unplug the power cable, not sure if it has something to do with it.
Can anyone help me fix this please?
Isaac.

I've been experiencing the same lag ever since I bought the laptop, and always have tried to use the laptop while only unplugged for this reason.
I had also tried the entire gamut of power options to no success, and have fully given up on the issue. Until tonight, when I found this post.
Disabling the HDR display also solved the issue for me! Thank you so very much for finding that!!
For others: in Windows 10, open the Settings app. Select "System", and then "Display". In the "Windows HD Color" section, untick "Use HDR".

I would suggest that you start by resetting your power plan:

You could run the open source HWINFO64 https://www.hwinfo.com/download/
This would let you see what speed the processor is running at, and whether thermal throttling is occurring, or whether there is a restriction limiting the performance.
Once we know what is occurring, perhaps the forum can help more.

Hello and thank you for the response.
Unfortunately your advise did not solve my issue
Any other ideas?
Thanks

Hi, I have found out what is causing the slowdown - the HDR option on display options!
It was ON, when I turned it off, no flickering, no delays and lags!
Shouldn't I use the HDR option??

HDR only works on special HDR video content (like some Netflix stuff). Whether you prefer the details in the shadows it gives is a matter of preference to some degree.
Here is a an explanation: https://www.pcmag.com/news/what-is-hdr-high-dynamic-range
You can preview HDR on the windows settings page - but I turn it off except for special occasions. For everything except HDR video content there is no benefit.

No wonder why it's buried lol, of course it's HDR! Shutting it off fixed a longstanding issue. Thanks!

I was having this problem for a long time. When it slowed down, I turned off my computer, ran it without the AC power cable plugged in, and plugged the AC power cable on the boot screen.
The solution JustinM45 said solved my problem without turning off my computer. I will test for a few weeks. I'll repost the progress.
