XPS 15 TPM device is not detected, no TPM setting in Bios 1.19.2 and TPM 2.0 updater Query Fails

Hi Dell forum,

I have XPS 15 9560

Bios 1.19.2

UEFI ROM

ePSA Build 43 06.17

TPM device not detected started happening a couple days ago.

I don't know anything about "bitlocker" and have never used it.

This is my personal laptop.

I followed the instruction to update the TPM 2.0 Firmware https://www.dell.com/support/article/en-us/sln305777/tpm-option-is-missing-in-the-system-bios-setup-latitude-precision-or-xps?lang=en

I download DellTpm2.0_Fw1.3.2.8_V1_64.exe

but when I run the updater it says "The System TPM Query Failed, Aborting."

There is nothing in the BIOS settings under security about TDM.

Did I cause this?

Thank you for any help

adding:

I have windows 10 home.

I have been reading this thread

https://www.reddit.com/r/Dell/comments/cwt5nh/tpm_device_not_found_after_updating_xps_15_to/

although somehow I got to BIOS 1.19 without this happening.  The Reddit thread seems pretty old, they are talking about BIOS 1.16.

From that thread I believe I never had bitlocker, always had windows 10 home that came installed on my XPS 15 9560.

Is that reddit thread the latest advice?  Motherboard is ruined, etc?

Thanks if anybody is reading this please let me know if you read it

Oh yeah, that is exactly it.  Recent cases too, they even had my "Query failed" problem when I tried the TPM firmware updater thing.

Thank you for replying bacillus1, very kind!   I will join that thread.
