XPS 17 9700, left speaker not working
I have the Dell XPS 17 9700 and I get problem with left speaker some times stopped without any reason. I restart laptop, go to the BIOS and disable/enable sound, then the left speaker back to working.

I contacted Dell support yesterday 6/24/21. A tech logged in remotely and updated windows and my drivers - all things I have done myself previously as well. This solved the issue for a few hours. By last night, the left speaker was no longer working again. Will contact support again to see if I can get my hardware replaced. This is a huge problem for a very expensive laptop.

With so many people having this problem, why have you closed this case. Dell, why can't you fix this annoying issue with your very expensive laptop?

I have exactly this issue each 3-5 days I need to spend 1-2 hours to uninstalling/re-installing drivers many times to make it work
Is there any solution to have sound working on $5000 laptop??
Support, please , you have to release fix

I used to reload drivers to attempt to fix this issue each time it occurred as well. Sometimes it worked sometimes it didn't. Since then, I found a workaround method that re-enables the left speaker 100% of the time (at least until it stops working again, usually a few hours to a few days). As Zaid Al Hakeem stated earlier in this thread, Restart computer and enter the BIOS (F2) on the left pane under Overview click "Integrated Devices". On the Integrated Devices page under Audio-Enable Audio click the "ON" switch to turn it off. Click “Apply Changes”, you'll see 1 “Changes Made” in the yellow box. Now go back up and turn the same switch back "ON", Apply Changes and click "EXIT". The computer will restart and, if like mine, your left speaker will be working again (at least until it decides to quit again).
Very sad that a brand new $2,600+ computer has this issue and Dell can't (or won't) fix it. I've had my XPS 17" for three months and this issue occurred right out of the box. I have spent many HOURS on the phone with Dell tech support to no avail, pretty much a waste of time. Hours of research and troubleshooting on my own came up with what I just described as the quickest way to get it working again, if only temporarily. I would love to discover what triggers the left speaker only to fail. Very frustrating!
Best of luck with yours.

wow! thank you very very very much!!!
this just saved me 2-3 hours a week I usually spend on deinstalling/reinstalling sound drivers
Dell, please pay attention to this issue as it is definitely software one and should be fixed
It is possible connected with the another issue when unable to resume laptop from sleep mode as left speaker usually stop working when resume from sleep mode

Harumscarum,
Glad to hear this has apparently worked for you as well. Dell must have read my post because they contacted me and are trying to troubleshoot. Problem is they seem to want to call the speakers bad and replace them. How can it be the speakers when we do this process in the BIOS and it fixes them, even if only temporarily.
Definitely a software or BIOS issue.

I was also offered speaker replacement, but how will it help?? Thing is that simple Audio OFF/ON in BIOS fix this issue, but only temporary so I need every day interrupt my work to boot into the BIOS
I have also noticed that it usually happens after resume from sleep mode on after AC disconnected
So most probably this is motherboard issue which cause another well know problem with the sleep mode of XPS

For me the BIOS OFF/ON only worked for a couple of weeks and then eventually that wouldn't fix it either. Was only after speaker replacement that the issue went away completely.

So it is speaker (hardware) issue?
What I'm noticed that it mainly happens when laptop is disconnected from power and starting working from battery

Well Dell contacted me following my reply to harumscarum above. I have been troubleshooting for them ever since, obviously to no avail. I recently requested a replacement (or refund) since this hasn't been fixed and it occurred right out of the box. They refused both since the machine is older than the 30 day replacement policy. I provided proof (emails) of Dell's awareness of my issue and involvement in troubleshooting it within 7 days of receiving the computer and still they refuse to replace it, even though they are the ones that drug the time line out past the 30 days with their "try this, try that" advise.
Two days ago they requested a video of my BIOS Audio "Disable/Enable" procedure that, at least for me, has worked 100% of the time to temporarily "fix" the issue. I provided the video for them but have not heard a word since. So far I have spent upwards of 40 hours of my own time troubleshooting for them including a "clean" install of Windows 10, downloaded from a link they provided me (including hours of time reloading drivers afterwards),
All of this has been totally unacceptable to me a customer of Dell buying a $2,600 computer that does not work!
I totally get an occasional bad machine but really, what good has their warranty been?
