XPS 9570 1TB Toshiba NVMe upgrade to 2TB NVMe

Jump to solution

Has anyone successfully done this?  If so, what 2TB NVMe drive did you use?  I tried it with a 2TB Sabrent  but can't make it work. I tried cloning but apparently the 2TB drive uses 4096 bit sectors and the 1TB Toshiba uses 512 bit sectors. I tried to restore an image using Macrium Reflect but got the same error. I even tried a clean install of Win10 with no success,  I know the 2TB drive is OK because I can use it just fine in an external USB-C enclosure.  Anyone have any ideas?

All,

* Below are the only 2TB SSD that Dell validated/tested on the XPS 15-9570 =

H3GWX 2TB, Samsung PM981, M.2, NVMe, PCIe-34, 80S3, 22mm/80mm/2.38mm

MGHFP 2TB, Toshiba XG5, M.2, NVMe, PCIe-34, 80S3, 22mm/80mm/2.23mm

The short answer--no.  Not entirely sure why!

I was able to successfully clone my 1TB Toshiba drive to a MGHFP 2TB Toshiba XG5, M.2, NVMe, PCIe-34, 80S3, 22mm/80mm/2.23mm  per your recommendation!  Apparently, the 2TB XG5 uses 512 bit sectors as does the 1TB Toshiba.  I think that must be the key to doing this successfully.  The Sabrent 2TB Rocket uses 4096 bit sectors.  Apparently there isn't any standardization for these 2TB NVMe drives.
