Exactly which XPS 15 model do you have?
I see this for XPS 15 -7590:
Unable to change LCD brightness
* Press Windows + Pause-Break
* Click Device Manager
* Expand Monitors
* Uninstall all the Monitors listed
* Close the Device Manager and restart the XPS 15-7590
* Reboot, open Device Manager, and you should only see one entry under Monitors
* Close the the Device Manager
* Attempt to adjust brightness using operating system display settings and/or Windows Mobility Center

I've asked the Moderators to move this thread over to the XPS Laptop forum.
In meanwhile, have you searched the XPS Laptop forum for threads about similar issues with the XPS 9560?
