I have a scenario where a copy of data needs to be seeded on an XIO to mimic current Oracle production on a VMAX.
Besides RMAN Backup/Restore, Open Replicator (hot push) is being considered.
When considering OR, issue is the same VMAX control devices that are needed to create the OR sessions are currently enabled for RecoverPoint and replicating with RecoverPoint CRR. I believe we cannot create OR sessions on same devices used by RecoverPoint.
Trying to determine if any possibilities or ideas to still be able to leverage OR for the data seeding from VMAX to XIO.

Yeah - I believe that will be a restriction with OR since you are involved in RP with the VMAX splitter. You could disable the CG in RP and then use OR for your initial seed, although you will have no protection at that time in RP when you do it
Other alternatives I could think of given you are EMC storage one both ends:
1. PowerPath Migration Enabler (PPME) if Powerpath is in use?
2. LVM/Host copy at the host level - LVM is online for UNIX solutions. If this is Windows you would have to look at something like Open Migrator, which has outages associated with it.
3. Backup/restore like you mention
4. Clone/Snap your current VMAX LUNs and use those as your PiT OR push source devices as they won't be involved with RP.
There might be some host work if this is the same or a different host depending on the LVM usage (export vgs, import, chvg, etc) but it would allow you to get a copy.
There are documents that have been published to help with this Push activity from VMAX to XtremIO. You should reach out to your EMC Account team who should have access to this document.
