XIO Upgrade process

I have two identical XIO clusters. One at Site A (Prod) and 1 at Site B (DR). I scheduled with EMC to have Site B upgraded from 4.0.1-41 to 4.0.10-33 and the pre-check engineer scheduled two events. 1 to upgrade to 4.0.2-80 and 1 to upgrade from 4.0.2-80 to 4.0.10-33. The Upgrade team said they can only process 1 upgrade/day/cluster so the upgrade is being done over two Saturdays.

I then scheduled the identical upgrade for the XIO at Site A. The pre-check engineer said I can go direct to 4.0.10-33 and no interim upgrade process was required.

Who is correct? the Upgrade team responsible for Site B or the Upgrade team responsible for Site A?

Thanks.

Jim

You should be able to upgrade directly from 4.0.1-41 to 4.0.10-33.

Can you pass on more details to me (as a private message) so that we can figure out why the first recommendation was made. It would help if you can share your site details and the folks involved. I want to make sure that the relevant teams have the right information.

Avi, your email is listed as private.

I received additional reasoning from the engineer that pre-checked Site A. He said I can upgrade directly without an interim step. Reason being 'if the cluster we are going to upgrade to 4.0.10-33 is managed by the XMS where multiple clusters are present, then we need to check each cluster version to make sure they are higher than the 4.0.2-80. The main reason is because the XMS will need to be upgraded to 4.2.0 which is compatible with cluster version 4.0.2.x. Tis is to make sure each cluster managed by that XMS will be compatible with the new XMS version.'

In both cases Site A and Site B, there is a single cluster, so I should be able to upgrade directly to 4.0.10-33 for both.

I'll reach out to my Site B team and see if they can correct their interpretation.

Thanks for your confirmation.

Makes sense.

Both my clusters have now been upgraded to 4.0.10-33 for over 1 week.

Upgrade was smooth, no issues, fully NDU. New features are most welcomed.
