Alienware AW988, repair request for power button failure (Review Unit)

To Whom It May Concern,

I am reaching out regarding my Alienware AW988 Wireless Gaming Headset. This specific unit was gifted to me by tech influencer Mesut Çevik. Since it was originally a review unit provided by Dell Turkey for testing purposes, I do not possess a retail invoice or receipt.

Issue:
The power button is completely non-functional, and the headset fails to power on. It currently only works via the 3.5mm analog jack, providing limited audio output (approx. 50-60% volume).

I have contacted local Dell authorized service centers to request an out-of-warranty (paid) repair. However, my requests have been declined solely due to the lack of an invoice. I am looking for a solution to have this device repaired professionally on a paid basis. Could you please provide guidance on how to proceed?

1. Authorized Partners: Is there any Dell-authorized third-party service provider in Turkey or Europe that handles out-of-warranty repairs?

* I am in the USA. But even if you find "Dell-authorized third-party service provider" in Turkey, they will not be able to get parts for the Alienware AW988. Why, because Dell does not repair headset so we do not have parts or repair documentation.

2. Technical Documentation: Could you provide the technical schematics or the specific part number for the power button/PCB? This would allow me to seek a professional independent repair without guessing the specifications.

* Not possible. As stated, "Dell does not repair headset so we do not have parts or repair documentation.". All Dell provides is seen in the Manuals section on the Alienware AW988 support page.

Loyalty Gesture: As a long-time supporter of the Alienware ecosystem, is there any possibility of a "loyalty discount" or a refurbished replacement program that I could opt into, given the circumstances?

* I am not in Sales, no idea.

* That is not possible.

Two issues =

First, there is no warranty attached to a freely given by Dell "review unit". It was never purchased, therefore it never had warranty.

Second, none of the Dell Alienware peripherals (headset, keyboard, mouse) are ever repaired. This means that the out of warranty repair service does not apply. If under warranty and defective, they are exchanged.

@DELL-ChrisM2

dear Support Team,

Thank you for your prompt clarification regarding the warranty status of review units and Dell’s exchange-only policy for peripherals.

While I understand that this unit was not a retail purchase, it is quite disappointing to hear that a premium product like the Alienware AW988 is effectively considered "disposable" once the warranty expires or is absent. Given that the issue is a mechanical failure of the power button—a relatively minor hardware fault—turning such a high-end device into e-waste seems like a loss for both the user and the environment.

Since Dell does not offer direct repair services for this category, I would appreciate your guidance on the following:

  1. Authorized Partners: Is there any Dell-authorized third-party service provider in Turkey or Europe that handles out-of-warranty repairs?

  2. Technical Documentation: Could you provide the technical schematics or the specific part number for the power button/PCB? This would allow me to seek a professional independent repair without guessing the specifications.

  3. Loyalty Gesture: As a long-time supporter of the Alienware ecosystem, is there any possibility of a "loyalty discount" or a refurbished replacement program that I could opt into, given the circumstances?

I value the quality of Alienware products and would much rather repair this headset than see it go to a landfill. I look forward to your suggestions.

Best regards,

@user_b50fbd ,

Welcome to the disposable society of 2026.

I don't agree either, but here we are.
Maybe try to fix it yourself, up-cycle it, or just do your part and recycle it.
