Area-51 AAT2250, looking to upgrade to 128GB
Hello,
I just purchased the desktop with 5090 and 64GB version. Unfortunately this only has 2 slots for RAM. I'm looking to purchase 2 x 64GB sticks to get to 128GB. My use case is local AI models.
What is recommended? will these work?

Considering the extremely high price of RAM right now, I would look for other solutions for AI models, as in hosting it in the cloud.

I understand, I don't see the prices retreating anytime in the next few years. If anything this might be the new norm unless we see a massive collapse in the AI and Data center build. AI is here to stay and we will be competing for resources.

Not much competition if you have no other option...
Only the Dell OEM memory is guaranteed to work, so the proposed RAM kit might or might not work. That is why I cannot recommend going the route of retail memory kits, considering that's an expensive fail should it not work.

No one will certify more than 64G in this system, so wherever and whatever you buy, be sure you understand your reseller's restocking fee policy.

Well I will say, I spent way too much money trying all of these. I tried 96GB (2x48 kit)ram DDR5 Kingston Fury 6400MT/s, and I tried 64GB DDR5 Renegade 6400MT/s - nothing will allow the speed of 6400MT/s except for the Beast memory from Alienware/Dell or the green sticks from them- otherwise you are forced to the lowest speed of 5600MT/s. Frustrating to say the least.

for my use case which is running LLM and comfyui/Wan2.2 locally, I don't think I will notice the speed difference between 6400MT/s vs 5600MT/s
perhaps in gaming it may net a few FPS??? I could be wrong..
