Aurora R16 and NVIDIA RTX 5070 ti 16GB Graphics Card
Hello,
I purchased the AlienWare Aurora R16 and upgraded the PSU to the 1000W model to try and future-proof myself for a new graphics card. I picked up an ASUS GeForce Prime RTX 5070TI 16Gb card, but it requires a 16 pin power connector, which it appears the 1000w PSU installed doesn't have. I have the NVIDIA 4060ti in the system, but it only has an 8 pin connector. Any suggestions on what can be done or do I just need to return the ASUS card? Called support and the guy wanted me to send my system in for repair for some weird reason, and couldn't answer my question about upgrading the PSU to one that has a 16 pin connector.
Thanks in advance for any help!

I believe you can get a Dell 8 to 16 pin adapter which would have been included if you ordered a Dell oem rtx 5070 ti.

Thanks for the reply! I should have mentioned that the 5070 came with an 8 to 16 pin adapter but there isn't enough power coming through the 8 pin cable from the PSU to power the 5070 card. One end of the adapter cable has three 8 pin connectors leading to the one 16 pin connector, but the PSU I have only has one 8 pin connector. Very frustrating.

If you want to be extra cautious given TDP of 5070 ti is between 4070 ti and 4080, you can consider the adapter 16 to 3x8 pin for 4080

If it is 1000w psu it has 2x6 pin+ 2x 8 pin. The Dell 6 pin with all three 12v wired is effectively 8 pin. use a straight 6 to 8 pin adapter will get you a third 8 pin. https://www.dell.com/community/en/conversations/xps-desktops/dell-psu-pcie-6-pin-to-8-pin-converter-cable/647f9987f4ccf8a8dece7f96

Officially the 6 pin connector is only guaranteed to have 2 12V pins. The middle one is officially unconnected.
With the 8 pin connector, it officially changed such that the one empty pin now has 12v

One user who had a Dell 1000w psu and RTX4090 reported
“ used a 2x6-pin to 8-pin cable to create a 3rd 8-pin input, and then an angled 3x8-pin -> 12vhpwr adapter to plug into the 4090 itself. This seems to have worked”

If you have a Dell OEM 1000 watt PSU, it should come with enough outputs to connect any video card.
However, opposite to retail power supplies Dell does not ship all the modular cables with it.
It will only ship with the cables that the configuration needs and the rest you will have to purchase extra cable by cable.
A 1,000 Watt Dell PSU should have the ability to connect at least 2 x PCI-E connectors for GPU power.

Thanks for your reply. The ASUS GeForce 5070ti requires a 16 pin connector, which did not come with my system, only the two 8 pin connectors. The card also came with an adapter cable (squid cable?) that has three 8 pin connectors on one side leading to a single 16 pin connector, but using the two 8 pin cables that came with my system doesn’t appear to be enough as the red light on the graphics card still comes on indicating not enough power.

@StillSmiling9da3b7 It has a 300 watt power requirement.
The red light is not for indicating a lack of power. See here for information on what it is used for and what the light means.
These connectors are notoriously difficult to insert. The red light can indicate a poorly seated connector besides a few other things.

Just to close out this thread, I called ASUS support and they advised that it's a card problem. I am sending it back, sadly.
Thanks everyone for the help.
