Aurora R16, comes with 16GB ram, looking to add more
Hello all,
I am looking to purchase a new R16, with the i7-13700F along with a RTX 4070ti. However this only comes with 16 GB ram, and I cannot add more via a customize option. Has anyone had luck adding in 3rd party ram?
My other option is a R16 with i7-13700F and RTX 4070, that comes with 32 GB base ram.
I would like the more expensive option with the 4070ti but it sounds like compatible aftermarket ram is very hard to find, and even harder to run at 5600 MT's. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Crucial guarantees compatibility with its RAM, when you purchase direct from them using their memory configurator.

As a follow up for anyone that researches this, I was able to add:
Crucial Pro RAM 32GB Kit (2x16GB) DDR5 5600MT/s (or 5200MT/s or 4800MT/s) Desktop Memory CP2K16G56C46U5
To my R16 with no issues, out of the box speeds of 5600MT/s.

@ejn63 I could for sure, but if Crucial makes a mistake and the ram doesn't run at 5600 then I should have simply ordered the R16 with 32 GB to start. Appreciate the advice.
I am asking here because others have posted issues with this exact model on Reddit and I was hoping someone else already went through this process.

@jediherder31 Hopefully someone will reply who has gotten aftermarket memory to run on the R16. By default these systems are very picky when it comes to memory support, and only the OEM memory is guaranteed to work.
It does not help when there is conflicting information from Dell on this either.
R16 FAQ
R16 owners manual
As you can see the FAQ says XMP memory support is currently unavailable, while the owners manual indicates dual channel XMP is supported.
Maybe @DELL-Chris M can shed some light on this.

@Vanadiel Thank you for this information, very helpful. It sounds like I'll grab the R16 with i7-13700F, RTX 4070, 32GB ram and I'll upgrade the PSU to 1000 watts knowing I can grab a new Video card down the road.

@jediherder31 I'm not sure what graphics card you are thinking about down the road, but note that the R16 is currently maxed-out at RTX 4080 and does not have the option for any "K" processor. Dell is imposing these limits for a reason, no matter how many watts you have in your PSU.

@ProfessorW00d I appreciate the information, but if you go to the base R16 you can add up to a 4090. I don't follow how future graphic cards are limited by this model. Only upgrade would be maybe the 5 series in the future.

@jediherder31 possibly a supply related issue but the highest level graphics card I see on the Dell web site tonight is RTX 4070Ti.

@ProfessorW00d Its not intuitive but you have to start with the base model for 1299.99.
https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/desktop-computers/alienware-aurora-r16-gaming-desktop/spd/alienware-aurora-r16-desktop/useahctor16i05?view=configurations
From there you can select a 4090.

@ejn63 Thanks, got some good info from another member that Crucial ram does work at 5600 as long as you stick to 32 GB. Ordered the 4070ti, thanks for the responses everyone.

I upgraded the RAM in my Aurora R16 (purchased June 2024) from 16 to 64gb with the Corsair kit: CT2K32G56C46U5 from Amazon, in alienware control center it says its running at 5580 Mhz speed.

@4nth
Link is: https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/aw/d/B0BLTG3RLR?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title
I purchased it from Amazon Australia site but it shipped from the US. I confirmed in bios it is running at 5600 speed by default.

I suspect that 96gb, 2x48gb Crucial Pro RAM would work ok in an R16, but i didn't want to risk it getting speed limited to 4800, also i think 64gb is enough ram for all games and AI tasks. Only if your editing video 96gb may be useful.
Anyone please confirm what speed Crucial Pro ram rums at?
