Aurora R6, lost Nvidia Quadro driver after upgrade to Windows 11

I have NVIDIA Quadro M4000 card and after upgrading from win10 the driver is gone and was replaced by MS basic display adapter. The nvidia app crashes with some error code. installing a driver from this link led to nothing

First it saw the Quadro M4000 and supposedly installed a driver, but nothing changed in system info or control panel. This has the consequence that only the first displayport on the card works and the rest are dead. They used to work fine on win10 with the proper driver.

How do I get the proper driver and make it attach?

Id try installing this driver from Nvidia. Just filtered from the m4000 so that should be the latest available version.

yes, that was the tool. I think the problem with Dell is that it does not like my Kaby lake with win11. I searched for that particular PCI controller and found a win10 driver kit for the entire chipset. after updating, the issue has now disapperared. so I searched for this

and found this solves the issue

@DELL-Daniel V​ that worked and now the nvidia app does not crash. I also see the display adapter changed to Nvidia. However, it says the RAM is just 1gb, while it should be 8gb. or is there another place to see the correct RAM for the gpu?

@user_b05832​  If the Nvidia app is reading 1GB then that is a bit odd. I'd try using hardware info to see what that shows. This is a very reliable tool for scanning all aspects of hardware.

just to clarify: the 1gb is shown is system info, which is win11 tool. I do not know where to check memory in the nvidia app. I tried the site you recommend and it installed some huge app that asked me for money and there was no way to get anything out of it. I had to remove it. just a waste of time.

system info also reports I have a problem with these and I had hoped the driver update will fix it, but not ready to start paying money to random websites.

The quadro is on the PCI, so maybe that's why the memory is not reported properly.

@user_b05832​ Interesting, not sure what was downloaded then as hardware info is a free app.  I would have expected to see a page like this pop up: The GPU memory would have been listed here. It should read as 8GB for the Quadro M4000. Even though this is an add-in card, HwInfo would correctly identify the lanes through the PCIe slot and report what it finds. If you get some other reading, then its possible its an issue with the card itself as you have the latest driver from Nvidia.

I appreciate your help. Can you clarify if I need to download and install hwinfo, or just scroll down and it would show me what I have? the big thing I downloaded and installed was called DriverUpdate.

also, do you have any advice on fixing the PCI memory driver?

1. I found the download for hwinfo and it shows 8gb on the quadro.

2. The dell support tool identifies the same issue with the PCI memory controller. the advice is to update the driver from device manager. however, windows does not find a driver for that. any advice here?

@user_b05832​  Hard to say what other drivers need to be pulled. Was the Dell tool you used the SupportAssist app? If so, I would use this to do a system scan and see what other drivers you may be missing.
