Should I cancel my order of the AW2725DF because of its issues with HDR1000 and the lack of firmware?
If Dell deletes my post then I will also cancel my order. <A post is only removed if that post violates the Forum Code of Conduct. DELL-Admin> It seems there is a serious issue with HDR1000 on the AW2725DF that has not been resolved and that Dell never intends to resolve. I care quite a bit about the HDR experience. Should I just cancel the order and look elsewhere until this is fixed? Thanks!

White OLED has an extra OLED in the matrix, which is pure white. They are made by LG. QD-OLED does not use a white OLED and uses the regular RGB OLED setup and is made by Samsung.
Each has pro and cons. LG tends to be dimmer, while QD-OLED seems to have better color reproduction. LG does have an ace up it's sleeve for burn-in as they have a patented system to combat burn-in that is unique.
LG due to pixel layout is better for text. I use a QD-OLED based panel and it's very nice. I also have an LG OLED TV, which is also nice. Either option are great in my opinion, but the third generation QD-OLED panels are very nice for color reproduction.

In my opinion, I would look at other options. Most will have some issue or another with HDR1000 as OLED panels need a balance between Lumen's and HDR content to avoid burn-in to the panel.
Since there are only 2 OLED panel manufacturers that I am aware off (LG and Samsung), there's not a lot of real choice out there.

@Vanadiel
Thanks! Would you consider a WOLED instead of QD-OLED? I know that HDR is much better on OLED TVs, but that is not an option for me.

@Vanadiel
Thanks for the info! It’s kind of a compromise and both have upsides and downsides. Hopefully the technology continues to evolve. Would you say that HDR1000 is any better on WOLEDs vs QD-OLEDs?

I would cancel. My monitor is 5 months old and is now useless. It's a shame because the screens are brilliant but the overall quality control is inadequate. Dell are swapping it for a refurb without resetting the warranty to add insult to injury. <The warranty start and end dates never change. DELL-Admin>

Sorry to hear that! Why is it useless if I may ask? Is the unit faulty?

@Shaant01 The monitor is controlled by a joystick underneath it. Randomly the monitor started switching between menus. I turned it off and on and now the joystick doesn't work, seems to be stuck so I can't turn the on screen display off. So my near £1000 monitor constantly has one box or another open meaning anything on the screen is obscured. It's so frustrating. I could live with it if I could turn off the alienvision or whatever it's called via the software but Dell only care about you being able to change the lights. I'm incredibly frustrated if you can't tell but now I can't watch movies/play games after working my tail off to buy it.

And if you Google Alienware monitor and joystick you'll see it's a common fault

That Dell should at least replace it with a new one. I wouldn’t accept one that has been refurbished if it is covered by warranty and the monitor is defective. Good luck!

Have to read the small print in the purchasing contract. There will be something in there about warranty replacements and refurbished replacements...

@Vanadiel it's a lesson learnt. The fact it's a common fault across a range of their monitors is enough to put me off from Dell forever. Their most expensive monitor didn't even last 5 months. Anybody with a reasonable state of mind would feel the same as I. But alas, I've now bought third party insurance for my devices as these big companies cannot be trusted.

Just one more thing with the OLED panels: QD-OLED use a 3M coating that is very suspectable to damage. LG uses a different type of coating that holds up much better.
There are various reports on these forums, Reddit etc... about scratches on the QD-OLED monitors from the packaging.
I had 4 x DWF Alienware panels at one point or another, and they all had these scratches. I since then switched to an Evnia (Philips) QD-OLED and that one is mint, no scratches on the screen coating.
