Factorio SpaceAge, fully charged, drains the battery after 1 hour of playing

The title explains the problem. All updates have been applied including the software to the game referenced. Most of the graphics options for the game have been disabled for the laptop. I am able to play the game on the laptop just fine when it is plugged in. But playing the game standalone for one hour on just battery power, the message box displays that there is only 5% power remaining. I am able to play the game just fine on the desktop Alienware system and an older Lenovo desktop.

This is NOT my expectation. One major reason why I purchased the system was to be able to play the game away from my desktop workhorse.

My experience is also being posted on the Factorio Forum on Steam.

The GPU in that system can draw 185 W or more when actively gaming.  The battery holds 90 WHr of energy - in other words, an hour of battery run while gaming (using the nVidia GPU) is entirely within reason.

No doubt you'd be able to play the game just fine while using the Alienware system plugged in (as a desktop) as well.

You haven't mentioned the model, but most Alienware systems come with high resolution screens and powerful GPUs -- and that means heavy power requirements.  It's entirely within reason the battery would be drained in an hour of game play, and it would be on any other gaming system as well.

If you have the option to disable the discrete GPU and operate on integrated video only, you may be able to better the runtimes, but if you want high performance gaming, it comes at a power cost that there is no way to circumvent.

Dell Support must verify the ownership and warranty status. Click the blue "Get Help Now" on the right to start a private live chat session. Share the private Alienware Laptop Service Tag with them.

Before our users can assist, you need to tell them what specific Alienware Laptop model.

@ejn63

Ah, caveat emptor.

The system is an Alienware m16 R2 with 32GB and an NVDIA GeForce RTX 4070 LAPTOP GPU.

Thank you for adjusting my use-case scenario. From now on anytime I am away from a reliable power source and have the laptop with me, it becomes basically a large tablet. The game has some settings that I can fiddle with to see if this improves battery life. Should have read the fine print in the ad.

The ad is slightly misleading.
