M14x R2, service tag not recognised, unable to check updates
Command Center - Check for updates returns message, "There have been problems checking for updates". Dell support website correctly identifies system and service tag, but states, "We were unable to load your support services". When selecting Scan Hardware or Driver Updates get message, "there is no match for that service tag or product ID". How can I resolve this issue?

Assuming the system did not come direct from Dell, it's a question only your seller can answer.

Our internal tools do not identify who originally purchased this 13 year old M14x R2. The Dell M14x R2 site and tools will only find drivers for the operating systems that we shipped (Windows 7/8/8.1). Based on your past post, you installed Windows 10. You will not find any Windows 10 drivers for this M14x R2 on our site. My advice, uninstall any Dell utility software. Do not use our website to look for updates.

I originally purchased this from Dell
I installed Windows 10, as I had issues with Windows 7 which could not be resolved.
I was not aware that Dell would no longer provide any assistance in this situation

All I can do is tell you what I see =
* There is no record of your email address on internal site

* There is no record of the private M14x R2 Service Tag when you enter it HERE on the external UK site
* On the internal Service Tag site, it shows shipped on August 7, 2012. But does not list the buyer
* On the generic UK M14x R2 support page it states =

* There is no record of your email address on internal site
my email address at the time of purchase would have probably been ….@hds.com or possibly ….@Sky.com. Neither of these are currently used
* There is no record of the private M14x R2 Service Tag when you enter it HERE on the external UK site
i 100% confirm that I purchased the system from Dell, so do not understand why your system does not show this
* On the internal Service Tag site, it shows shipped on August 7, 2012. But does not list the buyer
again, I do not understand why your system does not list myself as the buyer

I have recently grabbed an old M17x R2 and M17x R4 from eBay and both of these Service tags were not found on the Dell site. I buy and sell a lot of these old systems and this hasn't happened before so my first thought was that Dell have started scrubbing old Service Tags from their records for some reason. It's weird that it has happened to you now as well.
Honestly, you don't need to use that Dell Support Assist and it can actually cause problems to the older systems so my advice would be to completely remove it. Windows 10 will keep most things updated and there have not been any updates specifically for the M14x for many years. When you do a clean Windows install, the only drivers that don't auto install are AWCC, Alienware OSD and the media card reader (the Dell version of this does not install so you have to go to the manufacturer, I think it was Realtek). Just go to Nvidia for the display driver.

thanks for your info.
it’s strange that Dell do not recognise these older products. I am sure that I have had support from Dell in the past on my M14x R2, but now their system does not see the service tag.
I am not particularly having any issues since installing Windows 10, but just wanted to make sure that all drivers etc were up to date, hence my route via Dell to “Check for Updates”
I will check the specific items you mentioned, as suggested.
Thanks again for the info
