m15 R3, Thunderbolt 3 (USB Type-C) port, Samsung T5 not recognized

I have a brand new m15 R3. I have installed all windows updates, and all Alienware updates.

I have a Samsung T5 500GB external drive that works fine when I connect it to the laptop via the USB ports, but when I connect it via Thunderbolt 3 port, nothing happens.

There are no pop up messages and it does not show up in Disk Manager.

Other things I have tried:

Installed the Samsung Portable SSD software, and it also does not recognize the drive when connected via thunderbolt 3/USB c

Installed Dell Thunderbolt3 Controller software

Installed Samsung Magician, but that appears to only be for internal SSDs and not external ones.

Anyone have any idea how to fix this?

Dell hasn't been much help, but I did get it working fine with a different USBc to USBc cable. I have two drives, and initially tried both cables in case one was faulty, but neither worked with the Thunderbolt 3 port, even though I've also used the same Samsung cables to record video to the drives with my camera, so I know the cables are functional. I hadn't tried a third-party cable until now, but when I did, it worked. So far, Samsung can't explain why the cables they provide don't work in this instance.

Anyway, TL;DR Try a different cable. The one I had success with was a three foot cable that came with an LG computer monitor.

*BUMP*
I was able to plug in a cfast 2.0 card reader into the thunderbolt 3 port and it worked fine. The Samsung T5 still is not recognized in the thunderbolt port, only the USB port (different cables, obviously, and I've tried multiple USBc cables with the drive, too). Any ideas??

I’m having the same issue. Updated firmware and graphic card drives but no luck. Any advice

So I have the Area 51m R2 and I'm experiencing almost the exact same issue you had with not getting the computer to recognize the Samsung T5 SSD via the Thunderbolt port using provided USB Type-C cable. Our situations are virtually identical. Similar to you, I connect my 1 TB Samsung T5 to my Blackmagic PCC6K with the same aforementioned Type-C cable to record video. However, when I attempt to connect my SSD to the PC via the Thunderbolt port, nothing happens. Also like you, I can successfully connect the T5 to the Area 51m if I use the other provided cable which is Type-C to USB 3.1 via corresponding port. I also have a 2 TB T5 which I currently reserve for use with my PS4 Pro and PS5 but I tried the cables that came with that drive and it's the same thing so I know all the cables work. What did Dell and Samsung tell you when you contacted them about this problem? While I'm relieved that it sounds more like an issue with the connection between the T5, Type-C cable and Thunderbolt port rather than the port itself, it's annoying that I might have to buy another Thunderbolt/Type-C cable just to be able to use that port with my T5 for faster transfers.

Samsung didn’t tell me anything other than offering to send me new cables, but I didn’t take them up on the offer since I had a different cable that worked, and I wasn’t sure if a new cable from them would (not) work any differently.
