m15 R7, WD22TB4, power adapter warning

Alienware m15 R7

Alienware m15 R7

The problem:

I get the warning "You have attached a power adapter to a port that does not accept power". Can hit continue but it is annoying when working remote.

My setup:

  • Alienware m15 R7
  • Thunderbolt dock WD22TB4
  • 240W adapter connected to laptop
  • 180W adapter connected to dock
  • Already updated the bios to latest and tried several thunderbolt-related and warning-related options.

Details

When I use only the 240W adapter on the thunderbolt dock, the laptop doesn't charge.

When I disconnect the power from the dock and use the 240W in the laptop, the dock doesn't work.

The setup above works, the BIOS shows '240W adapter' as attached. But I still get this warning.

It should be a valid setup, a Dell (Alienware) laptop, Dell dock and Dell adapter.

How do we fix this?

Apparently this is just one of those annoying things we have to put up with every time we boot this machine up. It still will work with the dock but we will get this error every time....

I am considering buying a hp thunderbolt dock 230w for mine alienware. Just want to confirm, this dock works for you even with this warning?

Absolutely no problemo, it works exactly as advertised. Apart from the have-to-manually-skip warning during boot.

It should be a valid setup, a Dell (Alienware) laptop, Dell dock and Dell adapter.
