m17 R1, random program closures

Have a recently purchased m17. Not overclocked, not overheating. Programs/games will randomly close for no apparent reason. Hardware tests indicate nothing. Win10 is up to date, along with BIOS. Any suggestions to investigate would be appreciated

What hardware tests have you done? Did you run the ePSA diagnostic from the boot menu?

It could be a Windows error or possibly your RAM (could really be anything)

The ePSA has an extensive Memory test that should pick up any issues. The full test can take hours to get through.

If you're still covered by warranty then the first thing to do is to contact Dell and let them run through some possibilities. If they can't fix it over the phone/chat then they'll probably send someone out to replace your motherboard.

Or if his operating system doesn’t have the latest drivers, maybe that’s why?

In theory, Windows 10 should auto install the drivers but yeah maybe a few slipped through the cracks. I'd start with the Chipset drivers.

Yeah the chipsets aren't always good for auto-updating

I had this weird issue with my 15 also where whenever a Fresh install of windows was made. it would delete the Wi-Fi driver and id have no networking features and would have to connect my phone to get internet and download the driver.

Goodnight and ill talk to you tomorrow.

Those darn chipset drivers.

My Alienware 15 literally forgot to install the management engine AND the HM87 chipset drivers.

Never come across that before. That was the best feature of the Win10 install as it would give you the network drivers. Using a Win7 install CD and having to manually install drivers was a pain in the backside

Good thing tethering was added so you can connect your phone to download the driver but still, it’s a pain in the neck.
