M18x R1, Windows 7 Pro to Windows 11?

The Dell Alienware m18xr1 is not listed on Dell's "Certified/tested Alienware Laptops for Windows11".
I believe it lacks the new TPM chip module, which is a firmware level security chip. Very secure and included on pretty much ALL newer machines, such as my 2020 Inspiron.

Nevertheless, you CAN go directly to this Microsoft page...at the bottom, Microsoft has a PCHealthCheck program to run against your computer. This will tell you whether your current hardware has a TPM chip, as well as is compatible with Windows11.

Among the Windows 11 requirements for official support is an 8th generation CPU -- yours is second-generation.  So -- Windows 11 will never have official support on your system.

Even Windows 10 does not have support on this model, but it's a surer bet than Windows 11.  The issue you may face -- beyond getting Windows 11 to install in the first place - is that Microsoft may well pull the plug on updates for unsupported systems in the future.  Given that Windows 10 has a another four years of support left in it (at which time your system will be headed toward 15 years old, take that route and skip Windows 11 if you choose to upgrade the OS.

While not officially supported, there are workarounds to getting Windows 11 installed on older PC's. You'll have to do some Googling but if you head to the forums at NotebookReview then you will find some answers. There are people who have even installed Windows 11 on the M15x which is slightly older than your M18x.

Honestly, there is almost no reason at all to install Windows 11. You can easily upgrade to Windows 10 and it works perfectly fine on these laptops. You can go to Microsoft and run the Windows Media Creation Tool and upgrade your PC straight to Windows 10 Pro. I do it often with these old laptops and it's still a free upgrade.
