Ghost VM trying to be backed up

Networker 8.2.1.4 on Windows Server 2012r2

VBA 1.1.1.50

Hello all,

A few weeks ago, our VM engineer cloned a VM. Let's say the name is "vmserver2016". The clone name was "vmserver2016-clone". Once they finished with the clone, he removed it. Nothing unusual here.

However, for the past three weeks, Networker has tried to back up a VM named "vmserver2016-clone". It does successfully back up the original one named "vmserver2016", but also tries to back up that clone, as though Networker is having a hard time forgetting about this clone VM, or somehow still sees it. That name "vmserver2016-clone" exists nowhere in our VM environment that we can find. The backup job log simply shows "STATUS=UNKNOWN".

The scenario I have described above has happened to us several times in the past as well, after VM's have been decommissioned and removed. This usually stops happening a few days to a week after the VM is gone, but there was one time before where they simply would no go away. I reached out to EMC, and they sent me some commands to clear some sort of cache (which made sense to me), but those commands completely wiped out all of my VM selections in our VSphere client, so I wont try that again.

FYI, I'm using DPS Suite, which is essentially Networker with Avamar built in, so Im still a bit confused about whether VM backup issues should be assigned to the Networker discussions, or in Avamar.

Thanks!

Todd
