Celerra NDMP level 10 backups in NetWorker
Hello all,
I'm investigating the possibility of Celerra NDMP level 10 backups (incremental) as documented in the "Configuring NDMP Backups on EMC Celerra" V5.6 doc.
I'm currently using levels 0-6 for weekly NDMP backups, but would like my disk-based backups on a monthly schedule, with one full monthly and 20 weekday incrementals, however I'm not sure if this can be achieved with EMC Networker.
Networker uses the "Incr" level for incrementals, but this is not supported for NDMP based backups (produces a full,) only the level based backups can be used. I've tried using "level 10" from the command line, but this comes back as an invalid level.
Can anyone help?
Thanks.

My Networker contact is out until after the new year, so it will take me a bit to get the answer on how to do a Level 10 backup with Celerra.
Be aware that this is a function only with Celerra; any other host won't allow a level 10 backup since the NDMP protocol only allows for 0-9. Level 10 backups are a feature of Celerra NDMP.

LEVEL (the valid values are 0-10)
I imagine this is what you'd need to use. I'm still looking for more information, but that should start you in the right direction.

I have run a quick test against a small filesystem on the NAS, using LEVEL=10 in the client resource and have noticed some odd behaviour. Looking at the log on the NAS, the backup appears to run successfully at level 10, however I imagine because of NetWorkers lack of support for the level 10 backup, it shows as a failed backup.
Here is the log:
savegrp: suppressed 2 lines of verbose output
42916:nsrndmp_save: Sorting File History completed Successfully in 00:00:00 Hours
42917:nsrndmp_save: Processing NDMP File History...
6883:nsrdmpix: bad save level: -2
usage:
nsrdmpix [-s servername] [-p subtrees] [-l level] [-T tmpdir] -c clientname -t time -S ssid path
42952:nsrndmp_save: dccfilerep:/root_vdm_6/install_fs Processing NDMP File History failed on 'drnetworker01.dorsetcc.local'
42921:nsrndmp_save: recoverable(no indexes) savetime=1231236904
42697:nsrndmp_save: Leaving C:\Program Files\Legato\nsr\tmp\FileIndex2825072424\fhfile
It appears that the backup went through OK as I have a 900KB saveset on my tape, however networker is seeing it as level full.
