Chromebook 3100 2-in-1, Touchscreens LCD black spots?
We have about 500 of the new 3100 touchscreen Chromebooks and to date, we have had about 40 develop black spots of the LCD. Usually in the lower left-hand corner of the screen. Dell has been investigating, however, this is very frustrating as it continues to happen almost daily. We enrolled all of these devices in our domain this summer and not one Chromebook had the black spot issues. Is anyone else seeing this issue on the 3100s?

Hello, actually YES! Dell is repairing these. If you put in a Dell ticket they are having us send in Dell chromebooks (we ordered about 2100 of these for our school district) and they are repairing and replacing all of them. They will have an engineer reach out to you in about 24 hours and get something set up to replace them. I do not know if it will be covered after the 1 year warranty though, but it is definitely a known problem and they are swamped with send ins. Get those tickets in.

Welcome to the Dell Community @JackBost
That is "Bleeding" Liquid Crystals.
Depending on the amount of movement it will continue to spread!!!
With the numbers you report as being defective it could be a bad shipment of LCD's from the manufacture.
I hope Dell takes notice and will come up with some reasonable solution for you and others.
Best regards and good luck,

Hi,
I've had the same issue with some of our schools 3100 Chromebooks. Any word from Dell for a fix or what have you done with these Chromebooks?

I don't think anyone from Dell ever visits these forums. You should complain directly to them.

We had the same issue in our district with the 3100 touchscreens.
Dell support appears to be aware of the issue and willing to swap out the displays no questions asked, we have a few hundred that have this issue that we will be sending back over the next couple months.
I doubt you will see any official defect notice from dell, but they will swap them out if it's in warranty (ours were less than a year old)

We are also starting to see the exact same issue with our new ones. Has Dell gotten back with you about this issue?

Nothing. If the laptop is new, the warranty may cover it. Believe it or not, a brand new machine is considered okay with some dead spots. I took a brand new laptop back and the only replaced it because it had more than 10 dead LEDs.

We have been seeing the same thing with the touchscreen 3100's as well. We are contacting our Dell rep to see what they say about it.

We've been seeing the same issues thankfully only on a few devices. I've reached out to Dell via Twitter as I seem to get faster replies. They're having us ship them back for warranty repair.

So apparently Dell has still not fixed the manufacturer issues with this model. I am up to 40 total devices that I have sent to Dell for a warranty claim. Out of the 40 they only argued two of them stating evidence of damage. After a bit of arguing, even those two have had the screen replaced at no cost. I have informed Dell multiple time that the issue is lack of support in the back of the screen, and any slight pressure to the back of the screen causes the bleeding and in some cases lines and full screen malfunction. If you work for a business or a school system I would suggest signing up for the Dell Technologies Tech Direct. This has saved me some time placing in the claims. As I write this, I have had yet another student bring one of these screens to my attention.

How have you been contacting them? I go through the Dell Technologies site and create a service request. Depending on which tech gets my ticket could cause the whole request to fall apart.

I still haven't received your Service Tag or Express Service Code or Order Number. As soon as I receive any of them, I can assist you with your query.

I went through support chat today and was told that it was considered accidental damage and wouldn't be covered. I only have 190 of this model and at least 40 are showing some sort of LCD failure in the first or second year. Six arrived with the issue and we returned those immediately, but students and teachers don't always report minor issues - some of the spots are <0.5cm across.

We have figured out the best way to send in the devices and have contacted Dell direct on the other issues I had.
