CX3-20 Initialization

I am setting up a new Clariion CX3-20 out of the box and cannot get the Initialization tool on the server support CD to discover eith SP. Everything I read tells me to ensure that the Win server I am running the tool on is on the same network, but can find nothing that indicates what IP address I should be using.

I have tried 192.168.1.10 and 192.168.0.10 to no avail. The Win system acting as the mgt server running the initialization tool and the two SPs are connected to a 10/100 workgroup switch - these are the only devices on the switch.

Any other suggestions as to what IP to set on the Win system? (it is WinXP SP2)

Give it the ip address you like. The discovering of the init tool will find the unconfigured Clariion for you (just like the old HP Printserver progs did in the past ;) ). Then put the SPA and SPB ip addresses in and follow the rest of the init tool.

in most of the cases the initialization tool doesn't recognize the CX.I would prefer initializing it through null modem cable & assign the ip through web browser using the default IP.

It worked for me every time ;)

If you're going to use the RS232, you need to do it manually. Set your ip address on your PPP link to something like 192.168.1.10 and them make a connection to http://192.168.1.1/setup and setup the params of the SP you're connected to. Do the same for the other SP and change it to the 2nd ip address you reserved for your Clariion. Now go back to the 1st SP and restart the management server (also in the .../setup screen).

I was on the same track as all replies - no go. Apparently on the new CX3-20 series untis, as well as other CX3 series you need to initialize the unit by connecting to the Peer Service LAN ports (the bottom ports) and utilize an IP address of:
128.221.1.249
255.255.255.248

SPA @ 128.221.1.250
SPB @ 128.221.1.251

Serial should work as described. The service LAN ports are mainly for your CE, I am told....
