Adding WI SSD's to existing two tier (RI SSD, HDD) system
We currently have an existing system with a tier 1 or RI SSD, and a tier 3 of slower HDD. What would happen if we added a group of 6 WI intensive drives to the eixsting system ? I mean conceptually the WI drives should form a new Tier 1, the Tier 1 will be tier 2. but does the storage manager/compellent system automagically do this, or do you have to involve Compellent/Dell Storage to reconfigure this ? I dont see the ability to add/remove/configure tiers in SM.
We'll probably have to talk to them anyway to remove the R10 Mirror on Tier 3 regardless (and possibly the R10 on Tier 2 as well) since all the writes on the system will be on the fast and write intensive Tier 1 with everything else just being varying classes of performance storage.

Hello edfang,
You are correct that when you insert a set of write intense drives that they will be on Tier1. You will need to select the drives and create your Write intensive volume from within storage manager. If you need any assistance with that you can contact support & they can make sure that your setup is correct for best practice.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.
