The controller of the MD3860 currently has 4GB, and I want to upgrade it to 8GB. Can I directly purchase an 8GB cache or an 8GB controller?

Hi,

I have checked on both MD3860I and MD3860F controller cache is based on controller capability. You will not be able to replace cache, so you will need to purchase a 8GB Controller.

Reference DPN# in case you need it or other users:

9J1X0 Assy, Enclosure MD38X0F, Fiber Channel, ASSY Enclosure Controller, 8GB
HFPGK Assy, Enclosure MD38X0F, Fiber Channel, ASSY Enclosure Controller, 4GB
14Y4D Assy, Enclosure MD3860I, I/O, ASSY Enclosure Controller, 8G
7YJ34 Assy, Enclosure MD38X0I, I/O, ASSY Enclosure Controller, 4G

@hahaipoTo upgrade to an 8GB controller, can i simply shut down and replace the 4GB controller, and will the configuration automatically transfer?ths

Hi,

That is a good question, I've not tried this before. As most of the time, when MD storage have issues, we always dispatch the same controller to avoid any complex situation and any data loss. Theoretically, when a controller is being replaced, the configuration will automatically sync. But again, I've not done before from 4GB to 8GB controller. Maybe we'll have to wait for other users here to feedback if they have done it before.
