OME for firmware updating server

Hi,

Will OME support my to update firmware on servers, or do i need Advanced ?

I can see from the documentation "Manage firmware/driver updates on devices with firmware baselines" but just to be sure :)

As I understand i need the Update Manager plugin, but will that work with the free OME version ?

Thanks for reply

OME is always "free" and have no license.   Its licensed indirectly through iDRAC and need Enterprise, Enterprise Adv. or DataCenter.

With comming iDRAC10 the naming will be changed.

@Origin3k thanks for answer.

Just to be clear, If i buy a server, then i need to also buy an iDRAC lisence with either Enterprise, Enterprise Adv or Adv+ (You say datacenter?) ?

If I buy a server without any iDRAC license, I can still add this to the OME right ? This is a bit confusing... please explain :) Because I have a lot over servers without any iDRAC licenses, so what will OME give me then, still be able to do for example firmware upgrade ?

Thanks for reply

iDRAC comes in different flaviours

  • Express/Basic
  • Enterprise
  • OpenManager Adv.+
  • DataCenter

For my understanding Express/Basic will give you no FW ugrades trough OME because you cant doit within the iDRAC GUI when only having Express/Basic.

OpenManger Adv.+ is needed when you would like to use OMEVV which is the vSphere vCenter integration.  Its also needed when you would like to control the PowerPolices for a PowerEdge trough OME.
