MD3220i MPIO error

I have a virtual datacenter consisting of two windows server 2012R2 core hyper-v hosts running failover cluster manager connected to an MD3220i.

Everything looks good, except on one host I'm getting the following MPIO error in the windows event logs:

Event ID: 32

Dell MD Series Device Specific Module for Multi-Path failed to return a Path to \Device\MPIODisk0.

These events come in multiple times a day, and they happen for all 3 disks in the system.

MDSM reports no errors

All paths are available in iscsicpl.

Aside from this error everything looks good.  I have around 10 Vm's running on the SAN, failover clustering and live migration run without issue.  I'm ready to place the system into production, but I'd like to know why I'm receiving this error before doing so make sure there are no underlying issues.  I haven't found anything specific to the error online, so I thought I'd ask here.  If anyone can point me in the right direction that would great.

Thanks

Hey, Madendever.

I should have clarified from the beginning. It is best to completely uninstall, (it might even be a good idea to go to the programs directory, and remove its folders and any remnants of the previous install) 'old school' style) and re-install the application. I've seen this many times where something just doesn't click until that's done.

Also, I would be sure that you're using the most current iso for MDSM.

I know this sounds like a 'nit-pic', but I've seen it too many times to not consider it.

If this still doesn't resolve it, let me know.

Hello, Madendever.

I'm thinking everything is fine as well. I'm curious if you ran any updates on that host AFTER you installed MDSM. It's quite possible some patch or update helped to overwrite something under the hood of MPIO. I would try re-installing MDSM on that host. I've seen it many times before. Most of the time, this will resolve the nagging alert.

Let me know how it goes.

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for the suggestion. I reinstalled MDSM, but I'm still receiving that error.  I did not perform an uninstall first, but I didn't think it necessary.  Any further ideas?

Hi Daniel,

Uninstalling then reinstalling seems to have cleared the error. Thanks for the assist!

Hello Marcus Vinicius Braga,

What is the current version of firmware that is on your MD3220i?  What version of MDSM are you using as well?

Please let us know if you have any other questions.
