Dell 780 SFF Problem: Diagnostic lights 1-2-3 lit, two beeps

I have searched for similar problems as the one listed, and I have found people who have asked the same problem. The issue I had was that the people looking for help did not report back about whether the answers led to success.

So here is the problem. I bought a used Dell 780. I don't know if the memory or processor is bad. So I tried what was suggested in other forum topics. I removed/moved around the two memory sticks I have. When I remove all sticks, I get the 3 and 4 diagnostic lights (solid lights), and the computer doesn't power down correctly (the diagnostic lights stay on)

Taking out the processor just leaves me with an amber power light, and blinking diagnostic lights.

I thought it was an issue with the board, so I bought another. NOPE! New board, same error. So what is going wrong?

OK, so sometimes the answer  is right under your nose- or connected to your other computer.

Two beeps is related an on-screen error, so I would've needed to connect my computer to a monitor to see that I was being asked to proceed. The beeping was also because of the instances when I took out or rearranged memory.

So there is nothing wrong with my components. What is wrong now is that I am hit with a stop error. From a search, I think that the likely problem is that Windows wont allow me to put a new drive in a second computer. At least, I hope that's all that is wrong.

What version of Windows?

And exactly what does the Stop error say?

It is windows 7.

I no longer have the exact stop code, but it's similar to

0x0000007B (0x80D86B58, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x0000000)

I am currently writing to you on  the computer I've had this problem with, so my problem is solved.

It's the very first part of the code that's important. Are you saying you're getting a 7B stop? A 7B stop would mean the SATA Operation setting in BIOS is incorrect. For Win 7, it probably should be set to RAID Autodetect / AHCI. Incorrect SATA Operation BIOS setting would be consistent with the diagnostic 1-2-3 you get.

You said 'two beeps". Is that all you get or is it a repeat of 2 beeps: 2 beeps- 2 beeps-2 beeps?

Beep codes on this model come as groups of three where 2-2-2 would be a RAM error.

Simply 2 beeps, which is not a beep code listed in the manual. That's because the beeps go along with the on-screen message.

Did you check the SATA Operations settings in BIOS setup?

Could you have a non-bootable disk in the optical drive?
