Trouble installing HD5450 Windows XP driver
I tried Dell driver, AMD driver, Lenovo driver,
at least the AMD catalyst driver installs without glitch
but after recommended restart, there is no AMD driver installed.
there remains a ! display driver in dev mgr with “standard VGA driver” there.
I begin to think is this HD5450 bad? It is able to send normal video using the basic VGA driver.
research further. after using the correct prompt, AI responded:
Extract the Installer: Run the downloaded ATI Catalyst setup file and let it unpack files to the default location (usually C:\AMD). Cancel the installation wizard (do not install Catalyst)
Open Device Manager
Update the Driver: Expand Display adapters, right-click your basic video controller (listed as VGA Compatible), and choose Update Driver.
Browse Manually: Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)," point it to the folder where the Catalyst files were extracted and try to complete the wizard.
This was not easy task as multiple manual browse inside AMD sub folders attempt failed to find driver that wizard can accept. I kept on clicking back button to look again and again.
but in the end I was able to find sub folder Packages/driver/display/WinXP and driver/WDM/HDMI/WinXP to manually install both video and HDMI audio drivers.

the above was done with catalyst 14.4 latest for Windows. It works for XP 32 bit.
however, it does not work for XP 64. I realize in the end AMD had a bug in that version.
I tried an older catalyst 13.9, which works for XP 64.
