Windows 10 not displaying full screen
I have the dreaded black strips on either side of the monitor and the video doesn't look all that great and crisp! This is a clean install of windows 10 Pro 22H2 and all the important drivers installed, though I am missing a few that I think are not that important. Here are the basic deets via Speccy. I've looked at some fixes online but they are all the stuff I'd already checked in the Display Settings. The only thing I did not do is install the Dell Intel Graphics Driver because the Windows one was newer. I suppose that is what I should do, but wanted to get some input first. I'm using VGA now, so my next move would be to try HDMI. Though I would have to use another monitor that will not be permanent, there is no HDMI on this monitor. I've seen something similar on this monitor but usually the Top and Bottom, so maybe it is the age of the monitor.

What model computer do you have?
1. Everything in Device Manager must have a working driver. From Windows-Update is fine. No "Unknown Devices" are allowed.
2. That is normally fine (as long as it's reporting "Working Properly" and not in error in Device Manager).
3. You are on the edge, but I think VGA from a Intel-530 can drive a 1920x1080 monitor properly.
Are you sure the Resolution on computer and monitor are both set properly (and they match)?
4. Yes, strange that UltraSharp has no HDMI,
http://www1.la.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/monitor-dell-u2412m?c=ai&l=en&s=corp
but it does have DVI (which is just HDMI without sound). So, this inexpensive adapter cable should work.

Dell Inspiron 3250. I meant to choose that for the post but I still don't know how to use this stupid site. It's such a hassle to post.
"1. Everything in Device Manager must have a working driver. From Windows-Update is fine. No "Unknown Devices" are allowed."
I don't believe this has anything to do with a few useless drivers. Most likely a Card Reader or something, I will get them installed soon.
"3. You are on the edge, but I think VGA from a Intel-530 can drive a 1920x1080 monitor properly."
I looked it up and it should easily support that!
"Are you sure the Resolution on computer and monitor are both set properly (and they match)?"
I didn't know that the monitor had to be set? I will try it connected to my main monitor that has HDMI. I think it is the monitor, as I've seen something similar on this one. Thanks for the help, still watching to see if anymore ideas come up.

Are you sure the Intel chipset drivers and the Intel Management Engine got installed after your clean OS install?
Without them, some other drivers may install or may not work, even if installed...

I tried to tell him, but he seemed dismissive.

Yes, they are installed, I installed both of those. I will finish installing the rest tonight. There was no OS on this pc so I was not able to backup the drivers, so will have to hunt for them now on the models site. Thanks!

Get all the drivers installed before you go any further. And make sure they're all working (eg, no alerts shown anywhere in Device Manager, and all devices are "working properly").
Until that's done, you won't know what the problem is or how to fix it...

No Disrespect guys, I'd just never seen issues like this when those drivers were not installed. I've done this quite a few times but surely don't know all that much about it.
I installed the Dell Intel Graphics Driver but that did not fix it. I'm thinking now that there is something wrong with this pc. It was a clients of mine, they got a new one and I was trying to refurbish this one. I will try another monitor when I get time. Another issue is the Realtek USB 2.0 Driver won't install. I will try to attach a log file, it appears that there is no way to do that? All other drivers are installed.
Not only is there the black strips on the side but the icons are a little oval looking, just not perfectly round I would say.

1. Good
2. Possibly, but not likely if if was working before.
3. Nice
4. Cool. However, that DELL UltraSharp U2412M (IPS-Panel 1920x1080@60Hz) is pretty nice. My Dell UltraSharp U2410 is still going strong. Get that cable I linked to or go into monitor's menu and set it to Auto-Detect Resolution.
5. Hmm. Are you sure it's a Dell Inspiron 3250 ?
6. That means the Aspect Ratio is incorrect (again, points to wrong resolution being used).

It's just a basic Dell Inspiron 3250, so Windows-10's Windows-Update should toss you everything you need ... usually.
What I do is clean install Windows. If anything is missing/in-error, I get just those from Dell. If something strange or SMBUS is in error, that is usually Intel Chipset drivers that are missing.

It was not working before, and was using the Customers monitor.

Would you elaborate on this, I don't know about Aspect Ratio's, I will look it up. I'm going to pull out an old monitor that is smaller to use today sometime.

A smaller monitor works! Something to do with that monitor, resolution and perhaps aspect ratio?
Intel CPU shows resolution specs of course, is why I was not sure why this was happening.
I think I will sell this tower, what should I post to make sure the customer can use it with their monitor?

This is the only one that will not install, the SD Card Reader. Realtek Card Reader Driver: This one would not install! I will post the Error later, very busy these days.

Possible that onboard Intel Graphics can't supply the "native" resolution for the monitor at the right refresh rate (Hz)? And/or the Windows Display settings aren't set properly for that monitor...
Does this PC actually have the SD card reader, or was that an optional upgrade? Power off and unplug cord from rear of PC. Press/hold power button for ~30 sec. Reconnect power cord to rear of PC and boot up.
Card readers are USB devices, so open Device Manager. Click View>Show hidden. Now look everywhere, especially under USB, for any "unknown" device(s). Right click and uninstall the "unknown". Then, without rebooting, try to install the Realtek driver again...

I am having the same issue. Same OS. windows 10 Pro 22H2. no issues in device manager. HP Elitedesplay e242 monitor and a dell inspirion desktop. did anyone determine a solution for the bars at the side? When I boot the computer, the dell screen shows all across the monitor, it's when windows starts the "please wait "screen that the. right and left bars appear.
