5559 lines & flickering
My 5559 shows screens like this occasionally, I've updated bios & drivers but problem remains. Problem comes and goes, 2 minutes after this the screen returns to normal after a bit more flickering. Any ideas?

Hi potroastman,
Thanks for posting. Apologies that your system is not performing as expected.
Video issues can be difficult to diagnose. The issue could be in the LCD, the GPU or the motherboard. Have you tried an external monitor? If it shows the same as the LCD, then it could be the GPU or motherboard. If not, then it could be just the LCD.
Have you run a systems diagnostics test? You can do this by pressing F12 at startup or using Support Assist http://bit.ly/1UXBb2H. Run the diagnostics, make a note of any error messages, then contact Tech Support for further troubleshooting and possible resolution. You can contact Tech Support at 1-800-624-9896 or 1-800-288-4410, or you can initiate a chat session http://dell.to/2v4snVm

Did anyone find a solution to this issue?
I have the same flickering issue.
- External monitor via HDMI is always fine
- I think it's a monitor issue because if I jig the screen up and down it eventually stabilizes, although not all the time.
- I updated my Intel HD Graphics 520 driver to 23.20.16.4973, but it didn't help
- My display is a touchscreen if that matters
- I tried disassembling the screen to see if something was loose, but it's not easy to reach the area where the monitor is connected to the motherboard

I had a similar issue with and I5559. If you connect another monitor and the other monitor doesnt flicker. You need to replace the Laptop LCD if you are using the Intel Onboard graphics (no video card). Make sure if you do it yourself you get the correct one. If its just the cable thats faulty/shorted, the system will not power up properly. The cable is easy to damage. It can get pinched at the hinges and the connector at the display can be easily be damaged when removing.
You can also try this. Press the area at the bottom of you LCD/Display , Not the screen but the black plastic molding underneath. Does this create flickering or lines?

I have the same problem and pressing on the bottom of the screen causes the lines to appear. What should I do?

Replace the screen.
I had the exact same laptop, and had the exact same problem as the picture shows, which presented itself out of warranty.
Once the laptop warms up, it can go back to normal. Or, if you twist the screen a little, you can get it to flicker back to life. That works for a while, until you have to twist it so much you crack the glass. Which my daughter did. She felt terrible, but it was not her fault. The laptop was almost unusable.
I bought a new screen and installed it myself. The laptop works perfectly again. Dell should admit they had a bad batch of LCD screens.

Even I have dell 5559 inspiron and facing same issue. Flickering stop when I hold the screen from behind at some point or it stops after a while of use but comes again when the laptop position is changed.
How can we raise this to Dell?

Hi Bobby.brite,
Thanks for posting. Apologies that your system is not performing as expected.
Have you been able to run a systsems diagnostics to determine if this is a hardware or software issue? Please run Dell SupportAssist, make a note of any error messages encountered and post back. Also run the LCD built in self test
Here is information from the Dell Knowledge Base you may find helpful: Troubleshooting a Flickering Display after a Windows 10 Upgrade

My son's 5559 has a similar issue except the LCD is totally black. HDMI to TV works fine. Power LED shows 2 amber flashes followed by 7 white flashes. Research shows this to be a LCD issues. His laptop has FHD touch screen. Following the service manual I disassemble the laptop and removed the LCD display. Going to order a new one. Upon further inspection of the display cable I found a crimp in the cable about 1 inch from the display connector (see picture below). I suspect this could be all or part of the problem. However, since I already have the laptop totally disassembled I'm going to replace both the LCD and cable so I don't have to take it all apart again if only one of them doesn't fix the problem. Would be great if it was just the cable but I don't have a way to test it.

It relapsed the symptom.
I tried to fix with "Event Viewer" and identified "Error" in System32/SRU folder.
I erased the contents of the folder and restarted my computer.
It fixed itself.
*Sorry some are in Korean.

I tried everything. Seems working initially. But relapse again.
Finally I replaced the screen panel from Amazon 40 pin for touch screen spending $47.
Finally it works like new.
That new screen restored the touch function!
