Battery replacement for Inspiron 15 3525
I replaced the 41 Wh battery in this laptop with a 54Wh ‘original’ battery (with a Dell label) ordered from Amazon. The replacement battery likely lasted less than a month. I generally only unplug my laptop when I travel with it and it had been 3 weeks since it was unplugged so I’m not sure exactly when it died (the message was that the battery had 0 charge and could not be recharged). Amazon would not replace the battery since it was past the 30 days they allow so I ordered a new one from Dell which arrived yesterday. When I unplugged the current battery my laptop immediately died and would not reboot even after the charger was reattached. Is this more than a battery issue? Also… the instructions for upgrading the battery stated that some sort of rubber piece should be placed in the extra screw hole but I did not receive one of these with the battery from Amazon or Dell.

If you know the battery is charged but the system cuts off when AC is disconnected, the issue is the mainboard - not the battery.

@ejn63 Thanks for the reply. The computer was running fine while it was still plugged in. When I unplugged last week, before I ordered another battery, I received the message that there was no charge on the battery and that it could not be charged. I plugged it back in and it ran fine until today when I unplugged it again ... then it went dead and did not come back up when I plugged back in. I am assuming that the old battery is actually dead. I could install the new battery BUT if there is another issue also that would not solve the problem. Should the computer still run off the charger if NO battery is installed or must a battery be in place? If not than I would assume that the damaged battery is stopping it from running.

The system will run fine on AC only with no battery present.
Does the system recognize the AC adapter or does it show unknown in setup (F2 at powerup)?

I can not 'power up' there is NO response to any input. Until I unplugged the power adaptor the laptop was fine. After I unplugged it there has been no response to plugging the adaptor back in ... the computer is completely unresponsive.

Make sure the LED on the DC jack is illuminated. If it is not, replace the adapter. If it is but the system won't power up, replace the mainboard.

The Dell Community response setup STINKS. I went in a circle several times being asked for and entering verification codes before I could respond. Thanks for your responses. The laptop is now running and seems to be charging OK. I'm still not sure if there was one problem or 2. I had changed out my original 41W battery for a 54W which likely lasted less than a month. The response I was getting from MyDell was that the battery had 0 charge and could not be recharged. There was a brief flicker on the charging light when I would plug in the charger but no other response and the system would not respond to any input from the keyboard. After it sat for several days I did get a response on it after I pugged in the charger but the charging light did not stay on (same message from MyDell). I swapped out the old charger with another 19.5V but higher amps (4.1) and Watts, still no change in the response from MyDell. I went ahead and installed the new 54W battery, plugged in the new charger. The charger light now came on. I left it charge over night then booted it up normally. I ran it for a few hours then unplugged the charger and used it for a few hours the last couple of days. Today I plugged the charger back in and the charging light came back on again. MyDell says battery health is excellent and the battery at this point was at 54%. it is now fully charged. A couple of possibilities for what I experienced may be that the old replacement battery was damaged and was causing the issues, then regenerated just enough power to allow me to get things moving OR that the old charger was not up to the demands of the replacement battery and caused the issues (although both the 41W and 54W are supposed to be compatible with this system). I should mention that although I have had this laptop for a couple of years I only actually set it up less than a year ago (my failing existing laptop lasted longer than expected) so NONE of the components (including the charger that came with it) are that old.
