Charging Voltage
Inspiron 14 5430
I recently bought an Inspiron 14 5430. I noticed that when charging through a USB-C multi-port adapter, Windows reports "Slow charger", despite that the adapter is using the Dell 65W charger that comes with the laptop.
According to the adapter's specifications, it does support up to 100W PD passthrough. I measured the voltage and current. There seems to be no noticeable difference between directly plugging the charging into the laptop and charging it through the adapter.
Does anyone know what are the potential causes?
By the way, I cannot find a 65W power adapter with 4.5mm barrel plug that fits this laptop model. All I can find are the ones that outputs 19.5V but the USB-C charger comes with the laptop outputs 20V. I suspect this may have caused the issue mentioned above.
I'm surprise that Dell now ships USB-C chargers with new laptops even though the laptops still have the barrel charging port. It basically occupies the thunderbolt high speed USB-C port just for charging. I could have use it for other things like connecting to a monitor, while charging it through the barrel port.

It's not uncommon to encounter issues with USB-C charging, and there could be a few reasons why your Inspiron 14 5430 is reporting a "Slow charger" despite using a USB-C multi-port adapter with a Dell 65W charger. Here are some potential causes and solutions:
Adapter Compatibility:
Firmware/BIOS Update:
Cable Quality:
Power Profile:
Dell Power Manager:
Check for Charger Output:
Regarding the availability of a 65W power adapter with a 4.5mm barrel plug,I can find one here https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/dell-45-mm-barrel-65-w-ac-adapter-with-2-meter-power-cord-united-states/apd/492-bbme/pc-accessories
If you continue to experience issues, reaching out to Dell's customer support or technical support may provide more specific guidance based on the unique specifications of your laptop model. They might be able to offer insights or even recommend alternative adapters that are fully compatible with your device.

That adapter likely consumes enough power of its own that you'll need more than 65W to run it when connected to the system. The system ships with a 65W adapter, and needs that input to charge the battery and power the system at full speed.
If you'd rather use an OEM Dell adapter, these are standard Dell adapters with a 4.5 mm barrel connector:

We're having a similar issue at work where users are reporting 5420's - 5440's not charging using the OEM Dell 65 Watt USB Type C Chargers.
Also, i'm not sure if I've seen a Barrell charger on anything Dell has put out in some time. Certainly not before the 5420's. The last I can remember was seeing them on the 5490's and 91's and maybe the 7400's which had both.
Thoughts?

Correct, on the Latitudes -- but there are plenty of gaming (G-series) and Alienware models, along with the low-end Inspirons that use the barrel connectors. So too do most of the docking stations.
