Dell Inspiron 1564 Motherboard Information and Upgrade Inquiries
Dear Support Team,
I own a Dell Inspiron 1564 laptop and I am planning to upgrade the performance of my device. I would appreciate your help with a few technical details regarding these upgrades, as I want to ensure everything is compatible.
Laptop Model: Dell Inspiron 1564
Motherboard Model: 08CNC9
Current Processor: Intel Core i3-330M
Current RAM: 4GB DDR3 SODIMM 1333 MHz
Current Storage: 320GB HDD
The components I am considering upgrading are as follows:
1. Processor Upgrade:
My laptop currently has an Intel Core i3-330M processor. I am planning to upgrade it to an Intel Core i7-640M processor, which is compatible with the same socket type. However, I have encountered some confusion regarding the socket type. According to the CPU-Z application, the socket is listed as 989, but the Intel Core i3-330M processor and the Intel Core i7-640M processor are both referenced with socket 988 in various online sources. Could you please confirm if the Intel Core i7-640M processor would be compatible with my motherboard, especially considering the socket discrepancy?
2. RAM Upgrade:
My current RAM is 4GB DDR3 SODIMM 1333 MHz. I am thinking of upgrading to Kingston KVR1333D3S9/4G 4GB DDR3 SODIMM 1333 MHz. I would like to confirm if this RAM will work with my motherboard. In addition, I would like to know the maximum supported RAM capacity for my motherboard. I would like to verify if there is a possibility to support up to 16GB. The amount of ram I am planning now is 8gb but it would be nice if it supports 16.
3. SSD Upgrade and Other Components:
I also plan to upgrade to 120 or 250GB SSD. I want to use both SSD and HDD at the same time to increase storage capacity. with the help of HDD cady.
Upgrade Plan:
With these upgrades, I am aiming to make my laptop faster and more efficient. However, I need your assistance to ensure that the components I plan to upgrade to will work with my current motherboard. If there are any other recommendations or important considerations I should be aware of, I would greatly appreciate your guidance.
My most important question is how many gb the processor and motherboard support now these are very important for me.
Thank you in advance for your help. I am looking forward to your response and would appreciate your support in making sure my laptop runs at its best.
Kind regards,
[Hyperion]

1. The i7-640M should work with the system, but it's so old that it's try and see.
2. KVR is "Value" RAM -- it's unlikely to work. It has a poor track record with Dell systems. The max for this model is 2X4 = 8 G, and the RAM runs at 1066 MHz, not 1333 (but 1333 should downclock just fine).
3. The system should work fine with a 2.5" SATA SSD of whatever capacity you'd like.
Before jumping on upgrades, you may want to consider the value of the system (about $20 complete and working). No matter what you throw at it, it's still a 15 year old notebook and the funds may be better spent on a system several years newer.

First of all, thank you very much for your answer, I am glad that my question was answered very quickly.
As for the processor, I found it cheap and it is good compared to the processor I am using now, the number of cores is the same but the “Processor Base Frequency 2.80 GHz” is a bit good.
As for the ram, it is super slow with 4gb ram. I thought 8gb would be a bit better.
hımm
Dude, I think I'm being a little unreasonable, I just realized it now :D As you said, I wonder if these investments would be unnecessary in a 16-year-old laptop, anyway, I'll think about it a little.
I'm new here. I like it here.
Thanks again for your answer.
