Does dell inspiron 15 7000 have thunderbolt 3?

I have a dell inspiron 15 7000 with an USB type c port. I want to know that does it support thunderbolt 3 because i want to dock an egpu. If not, when dell will implement it on their inspiron 7000 lineup?

Welcome to the Dell Community  @MG7100

To better assist you, we would need the exact model number of your laptop/desktop???

Identify your Dell:

His link has service tag and express numbers. I don't see any reference to TB at all

I've just placed an order for an Inspiron 15 7000 and although the sales spec lists only the following ports:

  • 1 HDMI 2.0 out
  • 2 USB 3.1 Gen 1
  • 1 USB Type-C

The order document says that it's a 7591 with an i7-10510U. The manual for that model says it has:

  • 1 HDMI 2.0
  • Two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports
  • Thunderbolt 3 (USB Type-C) port with Power Delivery

https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/au/en/aubsd1/inspiron-15-7591-2-in-1-laptop/inspiron-7591-2n1-setup-and-specifications/ports-and-connectors?guid=guid-351fb991-7cca-49c7-a08f-cec6deb6410e&lang=en-us

...apparently Thunderbolt 3 comes for free with 10th gen i7 and Dell forgot to update their sales specs?

https://www.notebookcheck.net/Dell-quietly-updates-its-Inspiron-7000-2-in-1-Black-Edition-series-with-Intel-10th-gen-CPUs-and-Thunderbolt-3.438404.0.html

Are the USB 3.1 ports actually gen 1, or are they also quietly updated to USB 3.1 gen 2?

Thunderbolt 3 (USB Type-C) port with Power Delivery

Supports USB 3.1 Gen 2, DisplayPort 1.4, Thunderbolt 3 and also enables you to connect to an external display using a display adapter. Provides data transfer rates up to 10 Gbps for USB 3.1 Gen 2 and up to 40 Gbps for Thunderbolt 3. Supports Power Delivery that enables two-way power supply between devices. Provides up to 5 V power output that enables faster charging.

I want to buy a USB dock to support dual QHD monitors, ethernet and a couple USB devices, but I'm not 100% confident that it will support Thunderbolt 3.

Also, the specs & order confirmation say that it includes the Dell Active Pen PN350M, but the brochure says that the magnetic cradle is only in the black model (because it costs $700 to paint it black and throw in a couple magnets?!)

@nalbion  that's a very strange finding.  I also notice that for the Inspiron 7590 (not 91), even the product sales page here lists Thunderbolt support.  So in that specific case, the 7591 sales page does seem to be an error.

But @MG7100 , that type of error is highly unusual.  If Thunderbolt isn't mentioned in the system specs, then the odds are very good that you don't have it.  If you want to perform some additional checks, I believe that all Dell systems with Thunderbolt ports have the Thunderbolt lightning icon next to the port.  See if you have that.  And as a final check, go into your BIOS Setup.  If you see a Thunderbolt Configuration area with options that you can toggle, you have it.  If all settings are grayed out or you don't have a Thunderbolt Configuration section at all, then you don't.  To my knowledge Thunderbolt has only just started to arrive on the Inspiron 7000 series line with the 7590, after being kept exclusive to the premium XPS and Alienware systems and I believe some Inspiron Gaming systems (plus some models in the business-oriented Latitude and Precision lines).  So unfortunately you would not be able to use an eGPU, and there isn't a way to add Thunderbolt after the fact.  If that model was ever sold with Thunderbolt as an option, in theory you could get a replacement motherboard that had Thunderbolt, but if the system was never available with Thunderbolt at all, which seems to be the case, then that wouldn't exist.

And as general notes, you always want to provide your specific model (7573) rather than just "Inspiron 7000 Series", but you do NOT ever want to post your Service Tag in a public forum, because people can use that information to do things like file an Ownership Transfer form for that system.

To get this information you need to log on to support, enter your model number and most importantly Enter your Service Tag Number.

That will open all the hardware information on your Particular notebook, You should download and read your Service Manual there you will find out how to open your notebook

on the specification tab, you will find all your hardware listed

In the service manual, you'll find all your hardware listed in more detail.

The newest of the 7000 series 15" Inspirons do support Thunderbolt, but among Dell systems, ONLY the Alienware models support an external GPU.  Even the XPS models do not have official eGPU support.  That doesn't mean some won't work - just that Dell doesn't support them.
