G15 5511, Broken Hinge, #2

@Kushal Sathe

Bro, did you get your laptop repaired from Dell? Because I am also facing the same issue and Dell support is saying this is your fault these are accidental damages. They are just denying.

I am facing the same problem with my Dell G15 and the customer care says that I have broken it and also mentions that other customers don't face this issue. It broke just within 6 months and not even covered in warranty.

As many have now said here, Dell refuses to recognize the issue with the G15 hinge. They claim its damage not hardware issue, so wont cover under warranty. The defect is the star shaped threads that the screws bind to disconnect from the plastic case so no matter how secure the screws, the hinge fails. Dell doesn't cover this issue under the hardware warranty. The solution...I returned the 2nd G15 I purchased and have since bought 2 gaming laptops (an ASUS and and MSI). No issues with those after a year.

@XEROSPLOIT Dell refuses to admit there is a design issue and blames the customer.  I fixed the hinge by supergluing the star shaped inserts back into the plastic and tightening the hinge screws back in before it dried. It's held for a year now.  I purchased a replacement LCD screen for around $90 usd.

@Kushal Sathe yup same issue...not covered under warranty.  Dell just won't stand behind their products.

I've been using this for a year and didn't really care about this minor flaw on a refurbished G15 5220 until I realized the marks on my screen were permanent scratches.

I've tolerated a lot from it because it was a cheaper refurbished laptop, but it's really turned me off of Dell. I'm at the point that I really need to quickly rant about everything wrong about it here. There's a lot of unpolished bits of this laptop that really make it hard to use, like poor battery life and portability. I don't know if it's my model but I had a lot issues like blue screens, issues with file sharing, and other operating system issues/failures. I've heard nightmare stories about customer service and reading the rest of you here saying that they couldn't get help from Dell is seriously putting doubts in my head for any future use of their products. My warranty expired earlier this month and I could try to extend it but I get a feeling that it probably isn't worth it.

Hello,

I'm here because mine is clicking while opening laptop. I see this is common problem. Stupid design. Sorry Dell, this is last product I'll buy.
