Inspiron 3580 NVME Size Limitation?
Good day all,
I have done a fair bit of research on this laptop and found so far on the dell community site that the slot is a m.2 NVME drive and it seems that SATA drives are not compatible in the m.2 slot... This is all fine however what I am failing to find is anyone installing a drive larger than 256 GB. I am in a discussion with people on this upgrade and cannot find any evidence that the NVME slot can support a drive larger than 256GB.
The reason the size is so specific is the specs on the dell website state that the m.2 only supports up to 256Gb and I want to install a 1TB NVME in this laptop however I am advising on this and it is not my money being spent at the end of the day and I want to give solid advice. Can someone please confirm if it is definitely possible to install a drive in the NVME M.2 slot larger than 256 gb and still have access to all the storage capacity? I dont see any reason why it would be limited in the first place. The only thing that should be limited is the read/write speed IMO.
Sorry if the question is abit drawn out, just getting all the info on the table. FYI, the slot is currently unoccupied, the device is currently working off a HDD and the user wants to keep the HDD in the device.
Please correct me where you see fit.

Specifications are not limitation. They are the specifications of Dell tested and validated storage available to be sold with the system at purchase configurations.
You can install 1 TB of NVMe SSD to the Inspiron 3580. Here are some of the systems that users have upgraded their drive to 1 TB SSD and running benchmark test on their systems. Scroll down to drive category and verify the SSD models as well as the test results.

Thank you very much for the feedback! Greatly appreciated. I will post an update once I have installed the drive incase anyone has the same issue.
