Just installed a new battery, fully charged it, but notebook shuts down if I remove power cable
Hi there,
I have just installed a new battery, made by NinjaBatt and charged it up to100%. Following the instructions for first use, I was supposed to unplug and use it up to 10%, recharge and repeated the process 4, 5 times. As soon as I remove the cable, it turns off, though. All notebook diagnostics, Support Assistant & Dell Battery Manager show the battery is fine, 100% health.
Someone in some forum suggested removing the battery and holding down the power button for 30 sec. It did not help in my case.
I noted over the years, in the forum, many people have had a similar issues and no one responded to their suport requests.
I am quite wary of all this, because I I had issues with battery replacement with some Dell Inspiron 17.
I am including several screenshots which might help diagnose the problem,
I would appreciate your quick assistance as I am totally dependant on this machine.
Thank you in advance.

Did the original battery exhibit the same behavior? Or did it power the system other than a short run time due to its age?

Hi
Thank you for the response.
No!
The original battery worked, only that it was in advanced stages of age and could keep the notebook on for just a few moments, at most 3, 4 minutes after disconnecting the power cable. An unrelated issue with a faulty power connection pin, meant I had to quickly notice power was disconnected or it would mean annoying, sudden shutdowns, as the battery would not help to bridge those times long enough.

I had a similar problem and it turned out the connection between the battery and the motherboard wasn't tight. One side was pushed in tighter than the other. Check both battery cable connections.

If you've had the same issue with two batteries, the issue is almost certainly with the mainboard, not the batteries.
That would be the part to replace, assuming the system is new enough to make that worth the cost. On older systems, a replacement mainboard can exceed the value of the system.

No, I brought up the issue of 2 years ago to show my wariness with replacing Dell batteries in general for some reason or other. That was an Inspiron 17 and it seems the batteries from some Chinese company were poor quality as they lost battery health at an explosive rate, in spite of using them as they recommended.
THIS here is Inspiron 15 5570. The battery has been charged once and shows 100% health, etc. It is just that when I unplug, the notebook shuts down as if there was no battery at all.

With a system that old, the only option is third party batteries. If you think the battery is the issue, have your supplier replace it under whatever warranty they provide. If the next battery does the same (i.e., won't power the system) but is also recognized, see the rest-- the mainboard is the faulty part.

Hi
I contacted the battery manufacturer and they gave me a list of things to do, which may help someone, which is why I am pasting them here. In my case, none of those steps helped and after reporting back, detailing results at each step, I am waiting for feedback.
I need to add that I installed the old battery, just to see if anything like connectors, etc was not OK, but it worked right away, as with the little charge it had, and not plugged in, I could power up the notebook, something the new battery, fully charged will not allow.
Bios was already up-to-date, connector OK, or the old battery would not have worked right away. In BIOS, it Battery Health: 100% & Battery Status: Idle, I guess because it was not charging because it was all the time 100% charged and cannot be discharged as disconnecting from mains leads to shut down.
I will report back if they respond.
So here is the preliminary response, based on a description of the problem above:
Based on everything you’ve described, it does sound like the battery isn’t actually communicating properly with the motherboard, even if diagnostics indicate otherwise.
Here’s a step-by-step breakdown of what could be happening and what you can try next:
Dell SupportAssist or Windows may show the battery as OK, but BIOS provides more reliable information.
Please try the following:
F2
repeatedly to enter BIOS.Let me know what you see—this helps identify whether it’s a physical issue or a firmware miscommunication.
2. Perform a Full Reset (Power Drain Method)
Although you’ve done a reset before, let’s try again with a few changes:
If the battery and connections are good, this should trigger proper detection and charging.
3. Re-seat the Battery Connector
Occasionally, the connection with third-party batteries like NinjaBatt isn’t snug enough.
Ensure the connector is fully seated in place.
4. Update Your BIOS
Outdated BIOS versions can prevent proper communication with new batteries.
To check:
5. Run a Battery Report in Windows
This can provide insight into battery performance and charging behavior.
To do this:
powercfg /batteryreport

If the system will power up from the original battery, either the new battery is faulty or incompatible with the system. It's up to you whether to try another battery from the same vendor or ask for a refund and try something else.

I asked if that is a possibility that the battery is not compatible or somehow faulty as many vendors, including Amazon, Ebay, etc. say such a battery is compatible & usable in Inspiron 15 5570. The manual mentions a 1 year warranty.
Waiting for response. I am not the original buyer, who actually got a wrong battery for his Latitude, but in contact.
