lntegrated webcam stops working

i all, I have an Inspiron 7706 and have used the machine for 2 years with no problems.  I now have a really weird issue where the webcam will stop working every time after ~ 10 minutes of use.  The only "solution" is to boot to the BIOS configuration and then boot normally.  I do NOT make any changes to the BIOS to be clear.

But if I boot that way the camera is re-detected and it works.  But only for 10 minutes and then it is not detected again and stops working.

Any ideas what could be happening?  I did not install any new Windows updates or the likes lately so I doubt that's it.

Really annoying!

If your Dell integrated webcam has stopped working, you can try the following troubleshooting steps:

1. Check Webcam Privacy Settings: Some Dell laptops have a physical switch or button to enable/disable the webcam. Make sure the webcam is not accidentally turned off. Additionally, check the privacy settings on your computer to ensure that access to the webcam is enabled.

2. Update Webcam Drivers: Outdated or incompatible webcam drivers can cause issues. Visit the Dell support website, enter your laptop's model or service tag, and download the latest webcam drivers available. Install them and restart your computer.

3. Run Webcam Diagnostics: Dell provides a diagnostic tool called "Dell Webcam Central" or "Dell Webcam Diagnostics" that can help identify and resolve webcam-related problems. Look for this software on your computer, run it, and follow the on-screen instructions.

4. Check Device Manager: Open the Device Manager on your computer by right-clicking on the Start button and selecting "Device Manager." Expand the "Imaging devices" or "Cameras" section and check if your integrated webcam is listed. If there is a yellow exclamation mark or a red "X" next to the webcam, right-click on it and select "Update driver" or "Uninstall device" followed by a restart of your computer. Windows will attempt to reinstall the drivers automatically.

5. Scan for Malware: Malware or viruses on your computer can interfere with the proper functioning of the webcam. Run a thorough scan using reliable antivirus or antimalware software to detect and remove any malicious programs.

6. Check Webcam Application Settings: If you're using specific applications that utilize the webcam, check their settings to ensure the correct webcam device is selected. Some applications might have their own settings that override the system defaults.

7. Perform System Restore: If the webcam recently stopped working after a software update or system change, you can try performing a system restore to a previous point in time when the webcam was working correctly. This can help undo any recent changes that might have caused the issue.

8. Contact Dell Support: If none of the above steps resolve the problem, it's recommended to contact Dell support for further assistance. They may be able to provide specific troubleshooting steps or arrange a repair if needed.

Remember to follow any specific instructions provided by Dell for your particular laptop model or consult the user manual for additional guidance.
